Why ditch the cool Native American protagonist

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:00 am

Prey had you playing as Tommy, now with the info from Prey 2 they are ditching him and going with a new guy named Killian Samuels who is a US deputy/marshal.

I can understand wanting a different character and someone with a new personality, etc then Tommy. However why ditch the Native American side?

Prey was one of the only games that let had a Native American as the lead role. The only other game I remember having one was Turok back in the n64 days. They went and changed him on the most recent Turok and it tanked big time.

Changing the character into a more generic US mmarshal/deputy from someone who's more unique that we don't get a lot of in games imo is a step backwards. You can still have a bounty hunter and the same "overlal" character youw ant, but keeping him as a Native American would be a better route imo and make him more interesting.

Aye, well hopefully the game has it's own merits and this isn't the last of Tommy. Perhaps this is just a side story? Though it is incredibly disappointing.

Human Head definitely thought Tommy was an interesting character, and the first Prey game definitely focused on his story. But Tommy's only part of the Prey universe -- something they continue to build upon. As noted in some of the recent preview coverage, it's definitely worth noting that Tommy plays a crucial role in Prey 2's story.

Once we have more to show on the game (including gameplay), we think you'll see that they've got some great ideas to move the series forward. And not only that, we think you'll find Killian to be a pretty interesting character.

Thanks for pointing these things out. I was a big Human Head follower (Rune: Halls of Valhalla) and when they began development for PREY one of the significant concepts they talked about was creating a universe of characters and developing intricate elements to the world.
