What I mean is, it seems if 30 users cycle the same generic claims of 'CONTRADICTS LORE!' or 'THIS WASN'T AN ORIGINAL FEATURE!' or if a line of dialogue is not to their fitting, they throw a temper tantrum in the form of hot fury hate, or book long paragraphs on the logical fallacy of it. The moment one game does 'X Realism Feature' then suddenly it seems that a large majority of the gaming masses starting their heads going 'OH ABSOLUTELY! THIS FEATURE MUST BE INCORPORATED INTO ALL GAMES!', but where does it END? A lot of gaming today seems to be about first person shooters that are pretty much realistic up to the point of 'Lol, you died? Guess what? You gotta start from the beginning of the game!'.
I mean, people are entitled to enjoy a genre, and thats fine and dandy, but nowadays, it feels like many gamers demand that games become this massive homogenous blob of mixing either sandbox, FPS, combat, or multiplayer basis, or a mix of it all. My point is, is this type of thing poisoning the way gaming is viewed by the game companies who cater to them? I mean, back in the day, gaming used to be 'Lol, he got shot, well, time to loot the victory chest!' and has become more about 'WTF?!? MY GUY GOT SHOT IN THE LEG AND ISNT BLEEDING TO DEATH FROM HIS FEMORAL ARTERY! THIS GAME IS BULLCRAP!'.
I mean, yes, there is 'an exception to every rule', and you do find good games, but how often today do games released en masse today not fit the cliche trope of modern gaming? To me it feels as though gaming is slowly diverging to one long single railroad of game genre. I mean, look at Skyrim compared to Morrowind. While I've played neither, my understanding of RPG mechanics in both of them, if you asked for help on a complicated mechanic of Morrowind, you'd be laughed at by elitist snobs, or you'd be helped by someone who tries to simplify its core structure to you to help you understand.
I guess my main problem is that people are complaining about having to think and solve problems in games with their head, and seem to just want to push the jump, shoot, and inventory buttons. Again, while people are entitled to their choice of game, when it starts changing industry standards of 'think less, play more, buy our day one DLC', then I feel it's become a blight on the fun of gaming.
Do I fully understand what I'm saying, bouncing to different topics of complaint? Admittedly no. I'm dog tired, and am not exactly think straight. Anywho, I guess what I'm saying is 'Is modern gaming devolved into little more than child catering and compliance to complainers?'.
