I'll take Mad Max anyday over Borderlands

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:29 am

Ehhm, if you do read this id.. please don't spiral off into the fruity colors of Borderlands, or the stupid factions of Fallout 3. And don't go for the typical gameplay elements either
Keep going with the Mad Max theme. Please don't have us fighting waves of mutants for the majority of the game

More black leather on studs please! You should at least have that biker crossbow man with the reflective glasses that shoots the dog. I've been waiting since forever for him to be in a game so I can get back at him.

Roving motorcylce gangs are waaay more appealing to me, and probably most people looking forward to this game.
I want to be able to drive down the highway in a rusted black muscle car, come across random happenings and set pieces as opposed to tracking through a barren desert in buggies.
Really vehicles are great, but it would be great to have something a little less cliché then a buggy. I mean we've had that as far back as HL2.

Also CROSSBOWS! (a crossbow is a must, if you don't have it in there, I'm not sure what you're smoking)
You've always had a variety of weapons in your games, I can't remember the last game I've had to use the whole 0-9 at the top of my keyboard to switch through weapons. Have basic things like chains and crossbows as well as the futuristic stuff.
Really no one is going to be happy if you give us an arsenal the size of the one in the last Wolfenstein game.

Also I beg of you, stop developing this with consoles at the forefront.

If I see one quicktime event/flashing X/A/Y/B button come up for me to escape something. I'll be disappointed. Don't throw away your PC market. We all ran out to buy Doom 3 when it came out, and lets face it.. we could've easily pirated it.
I feel the same about RAGE and I guarantee you most of the PC community does too, if you give us a game that was designed with us in mind, rather then pandering to consoles (ie having only 4-6 weapons because anymore and it would take too long to switch through on a controller), we'll buy it out of sheer consumer loyalty.

So with that said, post things you think definitely should NOT be in RAGE ;

For me it would be quicktime events, or popup tips. Like "Press X" or a throbbing "X" in the middle of the screen. You shouldn't have to resort to that, and if you do.. I should have to work out what button I have to press to get out of it.

The "fruity" colors of Borderlands? Have you even played Borderlands? That's as gray a game as you can get! The only things that have colors are the items, the enemies, the vehicles and some buildings, but even then those colors are far from "fruity."

He's right though, Borderlands looks silly, and it's not exactly gritty.

But he didn't say "silly," he said "fruity," and there's a difference between the two. I agree that it was silly, that was the developer's intention, but if he wanted to call it silly he should have just said so. Being a game I enjoyed I don't appreciate it being called fruity when neither it or it's colors were "fruity."

Okay, maybe the word "fruity" was off, but the point still stands. The art design for Borderlands makes it impossible to take seriously: alright, that's how it was meant to be, but I think, with realistic graphics, the devs have the potential to make something really special and evocative with this game.

I had a good time playing borderlands. The graphics were unique and i think it had a cool art style. Totally not "fruity" though... I'd use the word "cartoonish" which i just made up. RAGE is gonna be sweeet though and totally not borderlands, not that borderlands wasn't amazing, they will just be different games.

Edit:gramurr.

Art direction has a huge impact on the overall feel of the game. Even though I think Borderlands is tons of fun. I see where you're coming from about the art direction.

This was what Borderlands used to look like....

From the screenshots I've seen, RAGE looks pretty close to that, so as long as it keeps its art style, it should be ok.

Borderlands looked so amazing at one time....then they made it into a child's game and slapped a M on it to try to make up for how bad it looked and felt. Gearbox I was disappoint.

Exactly, Borderland's graphics are not crap, their Unique. Borderlands is a fantastic game, and is the easiest game to get a Platinum trophy on.
The games graphics are good and different from all the other games on the market, and they give the game its reputation.
I want to see a Borderlands 2...

After the first five minutes of Road Warrior, I thought of how great a game this could make. Now, Rage will bring this to us. Even though there are differences, watching the vids gave me the same feeling as the movie.

Please keep platform bashing out of this thread, not only is it inappropriate for the forums as a whole but it seems largely off topic.

Borderlands svcks. I dislike that kind of thing. I don't own or want a console.

I hate leveling. Fallout 3 is not bad, a poor shooter, but the leveling thing upsets me. Borderlands got old really fast. When I walk into any shooter I bring ... 17 years of FPS. All the leveling I want. I shoot stuff in the head. It dies when I'm leveled up and does not when I'm not ... WTF?

Stalker is cheap these days. The best FPS ever made. A Mad Max guy should love it. It's hard, don't give up easily and it opens up wonderfully. I have spent 10 hours just getting my medium/long gun 'just right', there are lots. That's about how long Metro 2033 took me.

Why is Mad Max the pinnacle of apocalyptia? Apocalypse games look more like Doomsday to me.

And this game doesn't look like Borderlands. Sure, the environments have some similarities, but the art is completely different and Rage will most likely have a darker feel to it. It'll be fine, id knows what they're doing.

Interesting, I hadn't seen any "old" shots of Borderlands before.

I'm glad they went with something more interesting than a generic "ooooh, shiny" look.

What "console" complaints do you have about it? Only thing I noticed was the same problem alot of people had with PC Oblivion and Fallout 3 - the fact that the menu fonts were so big.

That would be because both of those games were RPGs, not FPS's. Heck, Borderlands was Diablo 2 with guns.

Borderlands is a cartoon game for consoles. It runs on a PC sure. The kill stuff for points is ridiculous and I like animals. In Stalker I'll kill a beast if I need a part from it or if it won't quit trying to kill me but otherwise never. It's for kids to run around in and have crazy fun. I just don't enjoy that much. Shooting scags for points got old real fast and the stupid overlay destroys any sense of immersion.

Stalker is an RPG with no leveling and is the best game there is in my not so humble opinion. You gain knowledge by playing it and you get better equipment as you progress. I can loot an anomaly quite safely most of the time just because I know how. They killed my ass a lot till I figured them out.

What makes BL "console" though? Just the cel-shading?

(Personally, I hate BL on a console. Any shooters, actually - trying to do an FPS with those handheld controllers rather than a mouse+keyboard is just impossible for me. Borderlands PC ran much nicer than the console version.)
