Patch features, Packs and DLC ideas list

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 12:55 am

Note for mods: I know this is a bit early but still building up the syntax takes time. This thread is not technical support.

PC:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patch Features / Optimizations:

These are features that are possible to be patched in the future after release.
  • AMD-ATI Eyefinity Support -- Status: Planned
  • 3D Stereoscopic Support-- Status: Unknown
  • Kinect Support -- Status: CR
  • HMD Support -- Status: CR
  • "Perfect Motion Blur" -- Status: CR
  • "Perfect Anti-Aliasing" -- Status: CR

Free Packs:

  • Super Quality Texture Pack -- Status: Planned 99%

*There was talk of some super quality "2GB" map level - it was meant to be one super level that's 10x times the bitrate - but i would really want the whole game to be updates as well.

CONSOLES:-------------------------------------------------------------------

Patch Features / Optimizations:

  • Texture Loading/Streaming (pop-in) optimizations -- Status: Ci

DLC:----- (Presumably this is multiplatform) --------------------------

DLC is mainly a console-term that indicates it costs money - so it's separate from PC packs - no idea if free for PC.

nothing here yet

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Status Legend:
Planned: Officially soon after release or in future
Unknown: possible but never mentioned yet
Ci: Community Idea / Request - (post your own ideas that benefit the community)
Carmack Research (CR) - are things that are unofficial / unsupported - no ETA and no guarrantee it's even going to be done.

* HMD = head mounted display

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thread still under constrution.

I'd assume any dlc wouldn't be free as it takes extra work to complete and if their going to charge console players they'd charge pc players as well since it would be a lot more involved that patching support for peripherals or a texture pack.

Random fact: Metro 2033's DLC was free on PC, but was a small amount of microsoft points on Xbox Live

As far as DLC goes, I'd just hope for a continuation of the story, different maps, kind of like Fallout 3's DLC.

Also of course new weapons or different ammunition types.

Last thing i guess would be more co-op missions and death match mode?

Idk to be honest I really only care about the story and single player gameplay. Little add-ons here and there.
I do envy you PC folks for the mods you can create though :D

I would be quite surprised if super-quality packs turn out to be payable DLC since its only a PC release it paint a bad picture (kindof insult) - most importantly the original quality assets are already there, sitting in the studio a matter of preparing and releasing this monster. Sooner the better - while the game is still hot or warm at least.

On the other hand, im not surprised bethesda will try to monetise it anyway. This is not a good choice for a new IP - you want the community fast - financially it may not be noticable in the short term, but in the long term RAGE 2 might end up as much as 3 times as successful.

Also, i wish ID makes PC history again, and releases a 100 GB version of the super-quality texture pack, perfect opportunity!
