Found a Quick Fix to Freezing

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:44 pm

I've done this with other games before, and I know some of you must have tried it. But I've found that by deleting the game data, and reinstalling the game and patch fresh, game freezes are almost entirely gone. The other bugs are still there, they're definitely coding problems, but at least the game runs smooth as butter! I've played 10 hours now after deleting the game data and still with only 1 freeze, compared to probably 10 freezes that would have happened.

How to do it:

1) Exit the game
2) Go to Game > Game Data Utility
3) Scroll to Fallout New Vegas, Triangle, Delete
4) Turn off system (optional)
5) Boot up and start game, install

It does not delete your characters or game saves, but as always, a backup is recommended before you try it. I'd be curious to hear if it helps other people too. At least we'll be able to enjoy the buggy game a little more smoothly.

That may help you for awhile, though I haven't actually tried turning my system off too along with uninstalling the game data. Tbh I've turned my playstation off from the net so that it doesn't update to that pesky 1.01 patch.

I heard that after you patch and install the game you should turn off the online portion. I've managed to reduce my freezes this way. I think there's something wrong with the game when it's online.

I'm going to try the reinstall and disable my internet connection and see if it helps at all.

Reinstalled and disabled internet and it helps a little and haven't crashed since but isn't really saying much have only played a couple hours since.

Stupid game crashed 2 seconds after I launched it! I am at about 12 crashes (50 hours). I think I am at around a hundred with Fallout 3. The thing about these crashes are that they come out of no where. I was playing a lag-free play-through for around 50 hours and suddenly when I tried to repair my weapon it crashed. With Fo3 it gave you hints that it was about to crash. (Frame rate dropping)
