Update the patch status... or else the game will go back

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:18 am

I really don't think the size of the saved files is the main determining factor here. I just brought this game today, installed, patched and can't get any further than the 2nd group of Gekos before the game freezes. Not always in the same place, but around that area.
I'm going to try deleting everything to do with fallout from my ps3 and see how it goes, if that doesn't work and failing any action from the devs (on a sunday) then the game will be going back to the store.

I'm really surprised at the number of people who come here to defend the game. It's as simple as this: name ONE product you can think of that gets released with the intention of fixing it later. Don't get me wrong, patches for games are a GREAT thing, but crappy developers are using it as a crutch to push UNFINISHED and UNTESTED products out the door. I'm positive Bethesda/Obsidian knew of all the glitches and problems with the game but wanted to beat the holiday market so that saps like us would go spend our hard earned money on a broken product instead a working game. There is absolutely NO WAY they finished this game thinking it was finished. They had every intention on selling us a broken/buggy game and just attempting to fix it down the road.

Again, think of one product besides video games where this is occurring. You wouldn't buy a car advertised with 250hp but craps out at 100hp and just wait for the company to fix the problems. If you're in school, you wouldn't turn in a paper full of awful grammar, unorganized themes, etc and just tell the Professor - "No worries, I'll just email you corrections later. Just needed to make that deadline." For all those saying FONV is a massive game and it's bound to meet some problems. Yes, this is true, but going back to the term paper anology, it wouldn't matter how grandiose your theme was - if your paper is crap it turns your theme to crap. Plain and simple, if the scope of their game was too much for Obsidian/Bethesda to handle then they should have scaled back the game to meet their ABILITIES or, of course, it should have been pushed back to provide a quality product. I mean, not only does the game frequently freeze, but missions are unplayable and the faction alliances are so glitchy it seems impossible to actually maintain a logical relationship in the game.

With games outselling movies and ranking one of the highest entertainment industries it's become all about money for these developers. Half finished product. A decent title but one that can't match up to the others coming out this holiday. Screw it - push the thing out the door.

I can guarantee all of you, at best Obsidian/Bethesda will fix the freezes to a level which most players can put up with. That will be it. All the ingame glitches, buggy alliances. We won't see any solution to this. Why? You've already made your money off the game so why do the work after the fact? The game will be left as is to make room for more money making opportunities. Once the freezing gets to a level where most gamers have been silences they will be pushing DLCs on a broken game.

Vote with your wallet. Don't buy anymore of their products or DLCs. Let your friends/families know this product is not worth buying as the company is not willing to take care or communicate with their customers.

Congrats on getting my 60 bucks, but it won't happen again.

Perfectly said my friend. i could not have worded it better if i had tried. :goodjob:

New Vegas seems to freeze and stutter right from the start, but for most people FO3 worked pretty well for about 50 hours or so, at least the non-GOTY version. Then it gets worse and worse for some reason.

Walmart would not allow me to return this POS game. They can only exchange it for another copy of the POS game. What a waste of $$$. Saddened by this...was always a huge fan of Fallout. For those who actually got to return the game...which store or which walmart accepted the return?

I think it is related or at the very least has something to do with the memory in the ps3 and how the game uses it during gaming. I personally think the ps3 doesn't have enough memory for this game but if its not that it could just be the game isn't optimized to run on the ps3's small internal memory. Memory and don't get that confused with hard drive or hard drive space, can have a big effect on anything, it can cause errors, crashing, freezing, etc. If I were the one to be tasked with fixing this freezing problem I would start looking there.

I have the 120gb slim ps3 and it seems the only time it will freeze during gaming is after several hours or loading a lot of big places like the strip or the more populated areas.

I don't think it is related to the memory what so ever only because, I like you own the same 120GB slim PS3 and my game freezes whenever I do the following:

Go Into V.A.T.S.
Enter a building
Speed Travel
Try to Buy/Sell something

I don't see how doing any of those basic tasks could be related to the Ram on the PS3. Even right after my game loads if I don't do anything but hit R2 instant freezes.

See, that right there is a perfect example of one of the almost infuriating mysteries surrounding this game.
The problems (bugs, glitches, freezes and crashes) are so varied and completely unpredictable that it just boggles the mind. I guess I just don't know enough about how software works. I can only imagine the amount of headaches involved in trying to sort out code in order to locate, isolate and repair so many problems. What makes it worse, in my opinion, is that for a lot of players (myself included) there just in no reliable way to pin down what is causing the freezing and crashing. I mean, seriously, for me there is no single location or series of events that triggers the freeze and crash. I've tried like mad to figure out if there is some sort of sequence of actions involved and there just does not seem to be any. I can repeat ... exactly and faitfully ... the actions I took right up to a freeze and crash, only to have the game continue to play and then freeze and crash at some other random point.

Right now, my friend is going in to his 13th hour and has yet to have any problems other than simple bugs like radscorpions stuck in rocks or an odd scripting bug here and there.
I'm not going to even try to defend Obsidian or Beth but I have to be honest and admit that I can see, even with my limited understanding of how programming works, the difficulties they face. As I mentioned in another thread, I think someone somewhere made the decision to release this game on schedule thinking that any bugs and glitches would be fixable in the same way as Oblivion and FO3's bugs and glitches were. Unfortunately, in this case, it seems that that decision has blown up in someone's face and no one really knows exactly what to say to a gaggle of pissed off consumers.

The whole thing is just a mess and it's a shame since I really think that NV is a great game.

In lieu of the above, and JaymesB effort in tracking various principle matters within the problems I believe the system in question is also a matter. It has to be taken into consideration the amount of people reporting freezes, crashes, hanging, problems more often than those of a Slim 120GB for example. I am not saying getting a Slim is the solution, however I have noticed that older gen' systems are more proliferate when users report problems. Having said that, there are those that report no problems or very little - which in consideration is still the same condition but just not as suffered as those here. I think a massive testing has to be done by the developers regarding the handling of the game via the systems, if not to fix it, but in proving it is not the system - if that is the case.

In response to this quote I have to disagree, hardware is hardware, a majority of the PS3's internally are identical (I.E. all PS3 120GB slims have same internals as other 120 slims) this is because when building a creator buys parts as cheap as they can get to maximize profits and will buy in gross and therefore all those systems will have the same parts. Another idea as to this issue as in my original quote is effecting the same type of systems differently, DRASTICALLY differently. I mean there are quite a number of threads here that say it maybe when your save game hits 50+ hours or hits 5600K. My char is frozen at level 5 10.5 hours in and the save is 3600K. Heating up I don't think is an issue either as I can turn my PS3 on (it has its own shelf on top of my entertainment system with nothing near it) load the game and as soon as it loads hit the R2 butting and it instantly locks up. All with the PS3 not being on for longer than 5 min and it still being cool to the touch. I wish I had a better understanding of software so I could begin to speculate as to why the game engine is crashing in such a manner so randomly to so many different people and yet not at all to some. I can only hope that Bethesda and Obsidian rectify their gross negligence in debugging a "finished" shelf ready product so that we can enjoy what we have all spent our own money on.
