Geck, where are thou?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 7:01 pm

So the game is out in the US.
But I reckon we can expect the GECK earliest on friday when the 'US beta testing days' (;)) are over.

But my question is this:
Is the GECK downloadable from a site or is it, only available in Steam (Library -> Tools)?

Not that it matters much ofcourse (I think I'd rather have it through Steam so I'm sure I have the latest one), but I was just curious.

And I don't want to feel like an idiot when I keep checking in Steam for the GECK and it's on sopme website to be downloaded

It should be available later today maybe, or this weekend, via the Geck page (which would need updating first)

Okay, so it's going to be available through a website and not through Steam?
How annoying. Bethesda/Obsidian, use Steam or don't, but don't be wishywashy about it.
Steam has a perfect spot for tools, called 'tools'.

Now people need to go out to a website and search for the GECK.
It would've been easier if they'd just put it up in 'Tools'.

That's also better to annoy those gameindustry destroying pirates as well.

Now that I think about it. I dont' recall anyone from the New Vegas dev team saying anything about
providing Geck. Least I've not seen any posts here.

You'd think if they had it planned there would be a offical mod board and geck board just like in Fallout 3 boards.

Pretty queer the way they are handling things. A simple post from some mods who actually know things would be helpful.

There are now subforums for GECK and MODS, please check there for latest updates and news.

In the meantime, for anyone who gets bored waiting for the GECK, an initial version of FNVEdit has been http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703.

That'd be an almost-certain no. There are a bunch of new things in the New Vegas ESM files that FO3's GECK wouldn't have a clue what to do with (new form types, script functions, menus, a few other things). Since the GECK wouldn't have the first idea what they are, it'd be pretty bloody surprising if it didn't just crash and go 'what the hell's wrong with this file!?' upon attempting to load a New Vegas esm.

You'll find the NV and F3 editors there.
