since the release the forums explode with complaints about the FPS and a possible connection to OpenGL and AMD video drivers or hardware. I just monitored my system a bit and compared the results to my experience ingame and here is what I thought of...
With the Brink Config Tool v1.5 I disabled everything that could cause problems, only thing I kept were the high detail textures; and I enabled Threaded Renderer "2" of course (have a quad core). Well, I am pretty satisfied with the performance on most maps, it rarely drops below 40 fps anymore. Now, I tried to record a short vid via FRAPS and noticed, that suddenly the fps dropped from ~80/90 below 40, sometimes even below 30 and never got back up again for the duration of the recording - and I had set it up for a 60 fps cap, not a 30 one! Task manager showed me that Brink is constantly pushing my CPU to more than 90% load on all 4 cores, which is great of course. But obviously starting FRAPS caused the FPS to drop to such a high amount, that can't be related to the GPU anymore!
My graphics card is stuck somewhere between 50% and 60% load (HD5870), same goes for a mate (GTX275). It seems that the engine causes the CPU to work a lot more than in other games, which could be the reason why my graphics card is stuck between 50% and 60% load while having fps between 120 and 40 during the same session. The more players are on the map the more it seems to influence the FPS, which isn't something new, but the level architecture seems to influence the CPU as well and therefore the overall performance. Probably everything could be solved by enabling the GPU to have more than 60% load, but I think it wouldn't.
It's the CPU that causes the FPS drops, not the GPU or the drivers. That's my opinion.
