Some Trait Advice

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:36 am

So, the four traits i'm considering are...and concerns I have

Wild Wasteland - Is it too over the top? Does it adversly affect my character?

Kamikaze - Is -2 DT that bad? Is 10 more AP really that much?

Four Eyes - Do glasses look as bad on a male character as they did in Fo3 - as in too big for their face?

Trigger Dicipline - Does 20% more accurate have a large impact? Does -20% firing rate make a large impact if i rarely use automatic weapons (more of a sniper/melee guy)

I am planning on doing a a sniper based character who also uses bladed weapons (sword, gauntlets) for close range.

Str - 5
Per - 6
End - 6
Chr - 5
Int - 6
Agi - 6
Luk - 6

Please suggest which you would select and give me some reasoning ... i looked for info on accuracy but couldn't find any on the wikia

Wild Wasteland isn't over the top. It's simply easter eggs you might find wandering about. They're actually relatively subtle for the most part.

Four Eyes. To be honest, I'm at Novac (3-4 towns in) and have not seen a pair of eyeglass except on one guy who ran past me non-hostile.

Trigger Discipline is godly. I'm sniping with pistols at 49 gun skill. An early faction you'll probably make enemies of are called Powder Gangers. They like to throw dynamite. You can shoot the dynamite in their hand with the increased accuracy and have it blow them up.

thanks for the insight. Also sort of side curisoity what is your icon from, it looks fairly old school (i use that loosley) like something from around the GTO period of anime.

If you're worried about where to find some specs
Spoiler
the Good Doctor at the beginning has an extra pair
. I took the WW and Loose Cannon, but as I haven't gone far past the last chance character edit (first town), I might reconsider it.

1. Wild Wasteland is Teh Awesome
2. You will WANT your DTs, trust me
3. Glasses look pretty good actually.
4. Could be a good fit for a long range sniper as you can still get several shots off before they get to you

Jack your Per up. A LOT.

I wonder if helmet goggles give a +1 towards the four eyes trait...

As for me I only picked the Wild Wasteland perk. I encountered 2 and so far they have been relatively subtle.

5 perception would be enough though if you plan on wearing +2 per glasses, have the 4 eyes trait (I'm not sure but I read somewhere it stacks), wear the 1st recon beret and take the perception implant.

Wow, pretty easy to raise perception to 10 now that I think of it.

Good point, didn't even think of that. Dump the point into Int or Luck then, eh?

I don't like Four Eyes because it reduces your natural perception which means that when taking perks you need one extra point to be able to select the perk.

I think that Kamikaze is one of the best traits if you like using V.A.T.S. especially now that perks like Grim Reaper's Sprint have been nerfed.

Trigger Discipline is decent if you are not into run and gun characters but you are more of a sneaky sniper kind of person.

Wild Wasteland is supposed to make the game more wacky and it is too unpredictable for my liking.

Does anyone know if Trigger Discipline has any effect on accuracy outside of VATS? It's been so long since Fallout 3 I'm a little hazy on how the FPS aiming interacts with traits and skills versus VATS.

I like Small Frame personally. A free point in Agility. The rest are kind of "meh" but Trigger Discipline is probably the best one.

Trigger Discipline is amazing. Better accuracy in general makes certain fights much easier, like against armored and armed super mutants - you can destroy their guns instead of having them pick it up after many shots to cripple their arm.

I haven't noticed anything truly "wacky" about Wild Wasteland. I guess they're the references I've been picking up on. The game's core quests are already wacky as is.

Glasses are plentiful (there's at least one at the very beginning), and if you don't like how they look, helms that cover the eyes also let you wear glasses under them.

-2 DT is signifcant. That's 2 more damage per shot. DT is very noticeable when fighting multiple enemies with guns.

Also, skill points are much more limited than they were in Fo3. Amazing perks make you go into stuff like 70 medicine, sneak, repair and so on (all 3 very important for a sniper), plus there's the survival skill if you like the idea of it, so don't count on going melee & ranged.

I've noticed this as well, but i've mapped out which perks i want and found I can still do a sniper swordsman no problem :)

Any comments on Small Frame. Like just how fragile are your limbs?

I haven't used it, but playing on Very Hard, the only times my limbs are greatly damaged occur when I'm fighting melee opponents. Just about everyone else will aim for your chest (which doesn't seem to get crippled, ever). Unfortunately, crippling legs doesn't do much against certain enemies, so keeping super mutants and such away from your precious limbs isn't easy.

@ OP: Try getting Luck 7 into your build.

Why? FNV has a new chat interaction called Lucky 7. Some funny stuff, like guessing random passwords or gambling related stuff.

If you're hurting for points, despite the lack of bobbleheads, there's still a way to get bonus permanent points. You're just limited in how many you can obtain. And as always - perception, charisma and to a lesser extent agility and strength are easily obtainable through items.

that's pretty cool lol. Yea, the only thing is a lot of the perks I want require a certain number...I may just pick it up in intense training.

Is it only luck of exactly 7 that enables that or will my 10 Luck girl also see that stuff?

Small Frame trait seems like a good idea if you are planning on playing the game on normal. In hardcoe mode, limbs can only be healed by a doctor or a doctor's bag (also by a drug Hydra, I believe). Since Small Frame reduces the HP of your limbs, I'd be reluctant to choose this trait if you plan on playing Harcore.

I like the Good Natured perk.

The +5 to Barter, Medicine, Repair, Science, and Speech are all useful early on in the game.

At the beginning of the game, if you stick to only one weapon type, it's sort of like only having one used skill at -5.

-5 to Energy Weapons, Explosives, Guns, Melee Weapons, and Unarmed

There's a trait that halves limb damage. I'm playing on HC and limb damage is the least of my worries. Haven't been in a situation where I have to walk around with broken limbs, but I've been in many where I've nearly died trying to survive on Stimpacks and intentionally low DT. I'm starting a new char heavily using explosives and unarmed, so that will likely change, but for a sniper type character, I don't see "Small Frame" being so bad.

There is a pair of glasses right at the start of the game in the room that you start off in. Check the table behind where the doctor is sitting when you awaken. You might have to go over the gurney to get them. And I don't think they look bad on a my male toon.
