I have a 2005 PT Cruiser and my AC is not blowing cold air. I took it to a mechanic for diagnostics, and they said the low pressure switch was faulty along with the computer (I’m assuming the climate computer). In this computer, pin 11 is not getting grounded by the computer. They manually grounded it, and the compressor kicked on.
My question: Has anyone had experience replacing this these two parts, and what risks would I run by manually grounding this pin 11 for the summer?
Thanks.
This requires an A/C shop with proper tools -- AND NO OTHER.
To pull the LP switch, you have to evacuate and later recharge the system. If you don't have a shop that meets Clean Air Act standards, you can't lawfully do it. Dumping R134a into the air is a HUGE NO-NO. If you do it anyway and do a bad job, you will contaminate your A/C and ruin the compressor.
You cannot run the car with the A/C jumpered on. The computer has to cycle it, or you will burn out the compressor.
