8 vs 8 battles

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:12 am

Hi everyone !!

I was reading the "BRINK Info Compendium V2 Information on Brink, comprised from various sources" topic and i found it surprising to learn that there wouldn't be larger scales battles than 8 vs 8 .
Given the story of the game I thought that there would big epicals battles (like 15 vs 15 battles) .. Specially for the pc gamers : steam will take care of the servs so it wouldn't really cause any problems and if some players don't like it and their would still be the 8 vs 8 , it's something you can see in some fps like css or dods which are supported by steam .

Maybe I misunderstood something while reading the topic and if that's the case please tell me ...

C ya

It might be modable on pc. On consoles it will be 8v8.
Also note that the game is designed for 8v8 and not for 15v15 (even though I also like huge battles like 32v32)

No that's right, there's a maximum of 16 players (8 per side). Large groups require larger maps and complicates the objectives, I imagine Splash Damage felt 8v8 was a good balance.

8v8 really is a good amount of people. When you play the game, you will find people colliding at certain points all the time and never miss the action. That is, if you are not an Operative and aim for the quiet places.

Also Steam does not host any game-servers, I believe.

Most games that support higher team sizes inevitably end up being played by smaller team sizes in competitive tournaments anyway. Something that irks me no end, games designed for 8v8 being played 5v5/ 6v6!

I'm hoping Brink will be a standard 8v8 for public play and competitive play!

I know 8v8 may sound a little bit small, but you gotta that remember that when you make it much bigger than that, zerging/turtling objectives begins to trump all forms of strategy.
Yes, there's exceptions out there, but as a rule of thumb anything much bigger than maybe 10v10 is almost guaranteed to be some cluster*** CoD twinkle-toes crap.

It's way harder to co?rdinate a 8man team than a 3-5 man team. Besides, this is objective based, not just an ordinary SnD/CTF/Domination game. In Wolf:ET, 3v3 was also the most enjoyable to watch (even though you could play 32v32 in public)

Some games are built to be played with bigger teams. These games can even be a lot of fun. However Brink seems to be trying to focus on you (the player) as much as humanly possible. So it makes sense that only small (relatively speaking) numbers of players are supported.

8v8 means 2 of each class if it's balanced like that.

16v16 means 4 of each class- do you need 4 operatives in disguise?

32v32 means everyone will be TeH BEZT Sn1p3r 3va!!!1111!!111one!!!111 or a T0tALLY AWSM NINJA!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!

I'd like 16v16 as an option, but 8v8 sounds alright.

From what i understand, the game was originally made with the capability to play 16v16, but during testing SD decided they didnt like how it played, so they are putting a limit at 8v8. Depending on how that limit was put in, it could be very easy for private servers to raise the limit back to 16v16 if they like; and I doubt that SD would do anything to hinder modders for no reason. SD and Bethesda are both very supportive of the modding community.
