Stupdi patch question

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:09 am

I know this is a stupid question, but I'm so frustrated right now I can feel the onset of a coronary.

I have been reading about the availability of a Fallout New Vegas patch for the PS3 everywhere. I've been having a ton of issues with the game, mostly involving re-booting (sometimes 3 times in a 90-minute sitting). Yes, it's compulsively playable, but having to save my game every 5 minutes is not cool. Also, I do have to share the TV with my girlfriend, so my time spent with the game is limited and I don't want it to be spent starting it over again and again.

I was excited to read about the patch but for the life of me, I can't seem to acces it anywhere, anyhow. I have tried the "Downloadable Content" option from the main menu. This was the method I used to download the Bayonetta patch (which worked like a charm), but in this case absolutely nothing happened. I even walked away from the set for 1/2 hour in case it required an inordinate amount of time.

Next I scrolled through the options at the Playstation Network and saw no evidence whatsoever of a patch, add-on, additional media, etc., etc. The menu options for Fallout New Vegas at the PSN are extremely limited anyway; trailer, I think.

So then I took to Google, typing in "How do I download the Fallout New Vegas patch for PS3" and "Where is the patch for the PS3 edition of Fallout New Vegas." I get lots (& lots) (& lots) of news items announcing the patch but nothing answering my simple question.

What I do know is that it should be a lot easier than this. Releasing a patch so quickly after the release of the game is, pretty plainly, an admission that something went very wrong in trying to meet the scheduled purchase date. I certainly shouldn't have to embarrass myself by asking this question on a forum for the game. I know I'm not the most game literate 40-something to pick up a joystick, but making this game a fun, immersive experience without the maddening defects shouldn't be so complicated.

It asks you if you want to download the patch whenever you start a game. What country do you live in? In North America and Europe the patch is live but I don't know about other continents.

???
I start the game everyday and nothing like that comes up. I'm livin' in the heart of the good ol' US of A.

Where is this question asked? On a menu screen? On the scrolling PS3 menu? Does a character in the game approach me with it?

whenever you start the game it should pop up a message that tells you that you need to download the newest patch. did you check if you were logged in to ps3 network on your ps before starting the game?

I'm having the same issue. I live in the US, Washington state, and I have never seen a notice about a patch to be downloaded. I need this patch but it's not happening. And, yes, I am signed in on PSN...

Are you a member of Playstation Plus and if so do you have your automatic download setting set to 'on'? If so this is why you may not have been asked to download the patch..

I'm not a Plus type person and my auto download setting is off.

Interesting. I am probably the same, although I'm not in the position to check. I'm glad this has been brought up. I know I'm signed it to the network, but I will need to double-check this Playstation Pkus deal. It better not be a service I have to pay for!

Haha  You need to pay for Playstation plus. You don't have it. Trust me. I seriously doubt you could have signed up for it by accident lol.

I have no idea why it isn't allowing you to download the patch though. That's a weird one. If it makes you feel any better, the patch wont help. Sure it fixed a few exploits and a bunch of quest scripting problems. But the game's biggest problems, such as the crashing you mentioned, are still there.

I've been playing the game with the original game data, the patch is just causing more freezing problems so I play w/o it.

You don't need Playstation Plus for it. In order to check and see if you have the patch installed, on the main menu of the PS3 go to games. Go up to "Dame Data" and press x. Now go to Fallout New Vegas (US). (There may be more than one Fallout New Vegas file, but the one you want doesn't say Fallout: New Vegas DLC (US), but just Fallout: New Vegas with US in parenthesis.) Press triangle, go to information, press X and see if there is a version number at the bottom under title, created and size. If it says 1.01, you downloaded the patch without noticing. This is the same way you delete the patch if necessary as well. Instead of going to information, you will just select "delete". I hope this has helped a little.

Wow. So I must've downloaded the patch during my last system update. Amazing. Even more amazing, the problems I've been having (today it was a load screen that never ended, causing me to re-boot) remain. Okay. I will now resume suffering in silence.

Thanks to everyone for helping a geezer out with his game issues! You've made this a little less embarrassing...
