Higher Difficulty?

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 10:23 pm

Hey guys,

So Im just looking for a mod/s to make the game harder? I'm a huge new player at the modding thing as I normally play on the console; yeah I know the PC is better, but I only have a laptop and it can only handle so much. Anyway, back to the main point do you guys know of some quality mods?

Check out PISE (if you haven't already) and Unlevelled World. It makes the game extremely difficult at lower levels. I was barely able to make it out of Bleak Falls Barrow alive after something like 50 reloads.

Just pick one, these type of mods conflict with each other quite badly unless designed to work together. PISE is the most established and a new compatible mod by the same author called ASIS is in the works.

Yes, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1269 is very good at making the game harder. However, PISE is being phased out. The changes that PISE implemented are being moved into http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1364920-wiprel-asispise-successor/ and http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1367059-wiprel-customized-ai/page__hl__customized+ai__fromsearch__1, although these changes are still very much a WIP.

If you are looking to increase melee difficulty specifically, I recommend either http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1355683-relz-deadly-combat-2/page__st__90__p__20619825__hl__deadly%20combat__fromsearch__1#entry20619825 (has a compatibility patch for PISE that works with default Customized AI as well) or http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1362399-duke-patricks-heavy-weapons-combat-mod/page__st__150__p__20636384__hl__deadly%20combat__fromsearch__1#entry20636384.

Although it has now been pulled, Wars in Skyrim IV and Master level difficulty had some NPC's which could kill any player. You can still find WiS on file sharing websites, before the modder changed the Nature's Doom main weapon from a spell to a poision the chances of any player winning the fight easily were next to zero. And this was even if you hit the Resist Magic 80% cap, it's main weapon would drain your health and the effect was concurrent meaning multiple hits sped up the decline of your health bar.

I remember taking 14 followers who were each equal to my Level (87 - another mod allows this) and I gave them all Legendary Ebony Armor sets, all with Resist Magic and majorlly brutal Ebony Sword stats as well as Ebony Bows with about 350 damage stats plus enchantments... it had little trouble killing us, I think there were two or three followers left alive when it got me and I have no doubt it would have whopped them with ease as well.

And then there were the villians in the mod, which were specially created villians... suprise suprise, one of them was a man-aligator thing and I was using dual wielding swords that dealt out about 300 damage each. It would barely put a dent in it's health bar and when it's health bar did go down, it would regenerate rediculously fast. It was as if it's health stat was approximetely 15,000 pts and it healed at 500 pts a second. You needed an army (say 14 followers with Legendary bows) to stand a chance of taking him out. It had massive stanima as well so it was constantly dual wielding you into a submission, too many times you had sheath one of the swords and bring out the shield and just let the thing go off on a power shot rant. For about 30 seconds it would literally be a case of it's war axes going boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom, boom-boom-boom... etc. It is really difficult to fight that without a shield or else you end up as minced meat. Only when it turned to fight one of your followers could you draw the second blade again. You'd have no chance if you weren't really high level to withstand the hits, or you would stumble back and be wide open.

So, if you want a difficult game.... set the difficulty to Master and download Wars in Skyrim.

Deadly Dragons... especially on the higher settings for the mod.

Also, add in IMCN and Frostfall for survival and you may wind up in deadly environmental situations.

Really, though, if you think the game is too easy, it may simply be your specific choices for your character. You may want to try roleplaying a character who does not always do the maximum type of thing with their equipment, skills, etc. Always ask, "would she do this?" (regarding your character, of course) and then act/react accordingly.
