freezes during every load screen

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 8:35 am

I was playing around with some mods earlier. I already had FXAA and Enhanced Shaders (although old versions) and Skyrim has been working fine for weeks. I then installed a texture replacer, and found that Skyrim would crash to desktop during every load screen, whether using a door, fast travel or wait. So i got rid of that, uninstall my Skyrim, cleared out the folder of mods and reinstalled it clean. I open it up and it works fine. I then go and get the new FXAA mod and install it. I can't say that this is responsible, but since then Skyrim will freeze during every load screen, whether load or new game. The model simply stops moving, and although i can hear sound effects from my character (fire bow, open menu?), this screen persists.

I've already reinstalled it clean again, and i'm still getting this problem despite eradicating any trace of a mod i can find. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this issue?

Try the "AntiFreeze" version of ENB -- http://enbdev.com/download_en.htm

Also delete skyrimprefs.ini file (backup first), this may help

is this anywhere in particular?

I emptied the whole Skyrim folder in Steamapps, and also the folder in my documents/mygames, but if there are folders elsewhere i may have missed them.

hate to be posting again but i've been working hard to resolve this issue and so far nothing has worked. I can't even find any info on this. Freezing during the load screen is apparently unknown to anybody outside of the console crowd.

What happens is the game appears to load fine, and right before it has finished loading, everything stops. The model on display starts twitching, and if i leave it a while i get weird graphical glitches, and i can activate in-game sounds. I even get the music. If i minimize and restore, i just have an eternal black screen.

This happened immediately after installing this mod - http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=131

I used the automatic install, and also tried the direct x update to be sure, only to be told my direct x was up to date. Could one of these two things installed something somewhere that i don't know of?

So what exactly did you do earlier to clean up the mod?

The injector mod really shouldn't load at all without its D3D9.dll in the game's directory (or in some other place the system looks for .dll files in, but if the mod ended up anywhere else the installer is completely broken).

It installed in the default location. I just checked by downloading it, and it is my Skyrim steamapps folder. But since then the whole folder has been emptied and deleted. It's a completely clean install, so i figure this error must be somewhere else on my computer.

My drivers are fine, my PC is brand new and up to spec. This is the first game ever that has ever even had a glitch, and it's permanently broken.

I only get this issue after making ini tweaks. Granted, I don't use FXAA injectors because the d3d9 file screws up my fps monitoring and they don't really look any better IMO.

Anyway, the ini tweak that consistently screws my loading is to the map menu. So the better zoom and such. Deleting all the mapmenu vars fixes it.

Okay Okay Okay.

So i restored my Skyrim settings in the Nvidia control pannel. All is well.

Kinda weird though, those settings worked fine before?
