"in my time of need" 3rd undocumented option?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 12:09 pm

I did not like having to choose between the girl or the gang of hired bounty hunters. I was so conflicted about who to believe that I stood there for 5 minutes (real time) not knowing what to do.
Then suddenly the game stopped the conversation and allowed me to turn away from Kematu thus "breaking out" of the mandatory decision I was suppose to make.

He then said "ok maybe some other time"

I suspect this is a caned response for when the player abruptly breaks away from any convention with any NPC.

But true to his word, his men did not attack me as long as I did not unsheath my weapon. So I walk past them all and out the exit that was behind them.

The official strategy guide does not list this option. (I only read the stuff l already did in the game so as not to spoil it for me but instead to learn the "logic" of the game dev style for other quests).

Is this a glitch or can all "must pick one or the other" situations like this be "busted out of".

Found this via search.

Just had a similar experience as you. Both parties convey earnestness. I made my decision on the basis that no legitimate bounty was presented to me by the Hammerfell soldiers/mercenaries. It was a tough fight, but in the end I was standing.

I really have no clue as to who was telling the truth as there is no evidence on the soldiers or the girl that gives any indication.

Question: Who do you think was truthful, and why?

I lean to the soldiers. If they weren't telling the truth, they had no reason not to just kill her right there.

hmmm good find

I found http://www.rarityguide.com/articles/articles/1002/1/Skyrim-Walkthrough-In-My-Time-of-Need/Page1.html which also does not mention that course of action

so did the quest complete for you or do u still have objectives in it?

I wish more quests were like this - where you don't know the truth - you just play your part.

better yet if that were combined with consequences in this not sandbox game.

The quest itself isn't actualy resolved until you either kill Kematu or help him capture Saadia, so it's less a third option and more of a stall.

I sided with the soldiers. They don't kill her, simply paralyze her and take her back home. So actually, she was a traitor. But your character doesn't know that, so all's well in the world

I thought this was about the other third option. You can take her to Kematu and then betray him before he paralyses her, if you're quick enough. Apparently this gives a different conversation at the end since she is, rightfully, angry at being used as bait.

It is a feature in the game, if you are too long to answer the one you are talking to will grow impatient and cut the conversation.
If you talk again to them later/right after you'll restart the talk from scratch.

In my opinion, Kematu is lying. leting one of his mens root in jail instead of paying 100 gold only because he is not stealthy enough didn't make sense for a group refugees trying to recover their land (what he claims) and fits perfectly for a group of mercs without even a piece of morality (what she claims). Besides his man in prison warns you he'll kill you if you find him, so he IS an assassin, though with enough brains to convince you to do his work instead of killing you right there.

They didn't kill her right there because a) he say you they weren't assassins and B ) probably thalmors want to interrogate her first.

EDIT: You can go out a conversation also pressing TAB.

So basically, that's just exiting the converstaion... Is that a third option or is that just not advancing the quest because that's what it sounds like to me. You can exit a conveersation at any time with B on the Xbox and whatever it is on the PC.
