Is "Can You Run It" lying to me?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 9:24 am

I have a computer I bought in 2004 and the website Can You Run It says I can play Skyrim on the PC at the minimum settings. Is this lying to me because I figured for sure the game would require a dual core processor!

Would it even be worth it? I mean like would the game just drop to a beyond crazy FPS?

Can you run it is usually a very inaccurate site to go off of. While it should run, it will run at low, with stuttering. The game is very CPU dependent.

So just forget that site and stick to using my PC for Sims 2?

This site is much more accurate:

http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10496/

And the answer would be... there are plenty of older pc game to enjoy.

The problem with all the "Can you run it" sites is that they only detect 1 gpu, if you have 2. All these sites only detect my ATI Radeon HD 4250m when I'm actually using my ATI Radeon HD 6370m. As a result, I get inaccurate results. Just keep that in mind when running using these sites.

@B1gBadDaddy: That site doesn't work. The installer fails to do anything...

It worked for me a while ago :) using Internet explorer was how I got it to work for me I think.

Thanks for the link. I gave up on Can You Run It when it first came along and hadn't bothered to look into such things since. This was interested to check out though so I'm using it now to check my system against several other games just to see how it rates everything. Looks good so far.

Truthfully, here, the real point is how inaccurate the place has been, all along, and only got worse over time, not better.

But back to the OP's hopeless wishes. Seven years is FOREVER in terms of computer usability for games. Four and a half is just about the outside edge of usefulness, and then that's if it was very high end when it was new. (There is, of course, a proviso. Skyrim just isn't much of an advancement over Fallout3, and FO3 was just incrementally more demanding than Oblivion was.)

Well, it works now. B) ...although it seems to be inaccurate.

According to that, I shouldn't be able to run the game(and it fails to recognize my AMD Quad-core CPU). I can actually run the game on High.

He's dead, Jim.

KOTOR, NWN, Baldur's, (umm Sims2 I guess?), older Civ...maybe not flashy, but great games you can still play. I never trust those "will it run" sites, because they don't take into account your own tweaks, 3rd party compatibility software, unpublished bugs and limitations, OC'ing. Devil's in details when its going to be close, but unless you have money to burn, I'd save your money and not chance buying Skyrim unless you are planning a computer upgrade soon.

My comp can run this game on medium with 1.5gb of ram, AMD X2 3800+ , and a 9500GT. You Gamers says my comp can't run it which is BS. Your comp should be able to run it fine on low. I usually go here for checking if my system can run things. http://www.gamesystemrequirements.com/index.php

Even on high the game has stutters in certain areas, I'm 99% positive it's the game's engine. The screenshot doesn't lie.

@Dope - Sites like these just use the min and rec requirements to judge your ability to run. So if you can run on lower requirements then great.

And a 590 is a dual card isn't it? I think that might be where the stutter comes from, along with the engine.
