Race Matters at the Ragged Flaggon

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 8:34 am

I ran into a problem using the CK to make a custom room. It turns out that at least some furniture - the Flaggon's bar and bar stools is what I came across, are affected by a character's race. (Testing shows that the problem also exists in the master game file's Flaggon.)

My Breton's hands sink into the counter top when sitting on the stool at the Flaggon's bar. I first thought that weight may also affect upper body height (the feet fit on the foot rail precisely as expected), but both fat and skinny people react identically. I also tested Nords (both fat and skinny) and Wood Elves, and found that they fit just fine, with one hand over trhe counter top and one below, as expected.

Questions:
  • Has anyone encountered any other problems linked to any races doing their mods?
  • Is there some way to fix my mod issue - i.e. insert some sort of exclusion zone to keep my Breton's hand up, etc?
  • Is there a way to mod my character's chacacteristic (which one is doing this, I can't say) to prevent the interference?

Any help is appreciated,

P.S. I originally thought this was a CK issue so I started a thread there. It now seems that the kit is working correctly, so I'm thinking this modding area may have the answer, so I switched to this forum.

My altmer hovers above bar stools. They're not clean enough for altmer anyway.

Have you tried using setscale? If its based on that, it'd explain why your Breton is sinking in (too short) and your Altmer sitting on air (too tall). I think Altmer are something like 4% taller than the average human? So try with the same race, messing around with the scale, and see what happens.
Obviously you don't want to have a taller breton as a fix, but it'd inform why the animation is off.

At least I'm not the only one, then. Thanks for letting me know.

By the way, all of the above was for my female characters, which I prefer. As an additional test, I just tried with a preset skinny Breton male. The problem still exists, but not to as great an extent- his forearm is only half sinking into the top of the bar.

I'll make do with the items as they are. It's still a fabulous game, after all.

OK, I tried the set scale command and saw immediate results. If I set my Breton female to 1.12, she sits just fine now, feet still on the rail and arm on the bar!

Evilgiraffe - thanks so much for your help.

P.S. - I found a pretty good article on how to change appearance, etc: http://j-u-i-c-e.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Change-Your-Characters-Appearance-and-Name-in-Skyrim

Quick follow up:

Breton females default to a scale of 1.00 on a base of 0.95; that's why they sink in. Other races: Kajitte have a base of 1.00,; Nords are 1.03 at start.
