[BUG] Game Day not in sync with Game Time

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 2:09 pm

Nope, I'm still not synced.

Weekday is changing at noon, not at midnight when it should.

Patch 1.3 for me.

The only possible reasons for this (to be honest considering the engine, it could be anything), is that the zone changes or things that need time calculations like fast travel, carriage ride and wait, is doing it wrongly, almost as if there was a margin of error in place (a guess).
Seems to be my experience as well. I started my second character with the intention of not using fast travel. The game clock starts off 1 hour out of phase, but was easily corrected. The game clock stayed in perfect working order up until the first time I got lazy. I didn't feel much like walking back DOWN the 7000 steps. Sure enough, the problems began immediately. I fixed it. Things stayed together until the next time I "fast traveled" by using the carriage. Blam, clock is out of sync again.

So I think the main trigger is using fast travel or the carriages. It doesn't seem to get bothered at all by simply walking everywhere, but even I will admit walking everywhere gets tedious after awhile when quests want you to go to Riften and you're in Solitude at the time.

I'm still on the original 1.1 if that makes any difference. I'm seeing reports that Patch 1.2 or 1.3 may have fixed this? If so I'd certainly love to know since it would be compelling enough IMO to warrant allowing Steam to do its thing. Other than this time bug, the worst I've seen is a few broken quests - which I think got that way BECAUSE of the time bug. One CTD in collectively 190 hours of play across 2 characters.

EDIT: Well, ok. So 1.3 hasn't solved it yet? Consistently changing at noon instead of midnight?

Perhaps a new character on 1.3 might be able to, though i to am still on 1.1 for various reasons.

I've used the carriage a ton and have not seen a problem with my day change. I'll check again, but last time I did a week ago, it was ok.

Part of the problem, I think, is the fact that an hour has 70 ticks, not 60... Or possibly 66.6666666666 ticks in an hour. Hard to get time to sync if you use floats, and there are not 60 or 100 ticks...

Also note, the sun still moves if time stops or is accelerated to hop exactly 24 hours a second. (not 0 time, that is invalid.) The sun stops rising if you hit 0 in actual game time... Using negative values for timescale... Not sure if that is related.

Reporting this bug in my game also, Patch 1.3.

Weekday for me only chance at 9:00 AM ingame.

And ... 9 hours is also the difference between my time zone and the time zone for BGS HQ, lol... ALSO, I remember the game is Steam has been unlocked at 9:00 AM for me in 11/11 ... :)

However this bug not seem to interfere with the routines of npc's (Shop's still open at 8:00 AM, etc) or the Sun cycle until now ...

EDIT: And I ALWAYS have v-sync ON, never changed my .ini files for that.

My days are off on my main lvl 43 ~80hrs. Fast travelled a lot, both walking and on a horse (never a carriage). System is quite OCed but I fail to see how that matters. Also vsync has always been on (can't turn it off even if I try lol)

I've added this bug and workaround to my list http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1312918-common-bug-fixes/

I still think my workaround is easier:

The easiest way of fixing it is to show gamedayspassed (e.g. 12.34), take the part after the decimal point (i.e. 0.34), multiply it by 24 (8.16 in this case) and use that as the new value for gamehour.
I assume it works as (un)reliably, but perhaps someone could verify (or not!)
