What's with Riften? : V

I had ctds pretty often, say maybe once per hour or so, but I would just have to restart the game and I could continue. And I didn't notice any particular place where this happened more often; it seemed pretty much random to me. However, after my main character ctd every time I tried to leave Jorrvaskr, I cleared all my saves, reinstalled and started a new character. Everything was fine for around 8 hours. Then I took the carriage to Riften. When I arrived, a dragon was circling and I started to help kill it, but as soon as I started after it and drew my bow, bam, ctd. I tried again, same thing. Waited, traveled there, started running around outside the north gate and bam, ctd again. I have since saw many people have problems with this. Any ideas what is causing it?

It's happened 5 straight times for me too-this is with the lastest update 1.3XX

For some reason i always crash while trying to run around Riften also.

Not sure what's going on today playing Skyrim-in the last hour, I've had over 15 CTD. Finally, I just got up and took a break. Yesterday, played the longest without a crash, almost an hour. It's gotta be a combo of the dual 6970 and Win 7 64. VLIW something?! Over 400 saves on a 2nd play through and only at leave 20.

When your game crashes around Riften, are you able to load a quick or autosave from right before it happens? Because I crash nonstop around Riften also, and whenever I try to load a the closest save to the point of the crash it won't load, it just stays on the load screen cycling hints forever.

It's possible to load the game-just as the dragon is dying is when it crashes.

Loaded the previous save (only a minute before) and jumped to a new location-the dragon was still waiting, but it was killable without crashing.

Have never played for more then 1 hr without a CTD. Played for about 2 hrs yesterday, had over 200 saves, and about 30 CTD's. Never had a single problem with Fallout 3 or this much with Oblivion (nVida back then).

Same thing here. Getting CTD near Riften. 100% stable everywhere else. Also it looks like it always happens when i run towards Riften, never when i run away from Riften. Maybe a bugged texture or something in the city itself...?

Funny I made a similar post "map cell corruption" at the Riften Stables area (map cell area) CTD asking for a map cell reset address... sorry I know a bit about coding esp maps guess went over everyone heads so...

Um, duh, my Riften Stables CTD onmme to, help !! (guess that's more lay man?

Well happens on me all the time after killing said dragon.... then again these this respawn and bug out ... STILL.

Almost all CTD solved when I changed the battery on my motherboard.

From 15-25 CTD/hour to 1 in 2 hours-after changing the battery on my motherboard.

My CMOS wasn't saving changes-it's the first battery that's gone out in one of my own motherboard over 30 yrs.

Not sure if this had anything to do with timing between the software and video cards, or just timing in general.

FO3 never crashed.

Glad I'm not alone in this. I can't even leave Riften with my first character by any means without crashing, so I've been playing a new character in the meantime. Have yet to crash while playing the new character, and I've been avoiding Riften like the plague.

---Update---

It wasn't the battery.

It was my Android plugged into my computer. I couldn't reboot with the Android plugged in (re-charging it on a USB port). Now, I'm really wondering how much my cell phone interacts with my PC. Since unplugging the Android, my computer boots without any problems.

Riften been causing me a lot of probs after latest PC update. I backed up my tweaked ini files, Ran "verify of game cache" from steam. Ran "defragment cache files" from steam. Fired up skyrim, made sure xbox controller was off, checked ini files against my "working" copies. Turned off mouse acceleraltion (again), re-ran game it defaulted to high, set shadows to low and its workling ok, looks a bit better and frames are a wee bit low but its playable again. Also turned off subtitles. This seemed to help also. Playable now but riften is still low on fps for me, i can live with that as i have the back door to TG open

There have always been people here complaining of CTDs outside Riften. It has nothing to do with the latest patch.

- What's your save file size? My Documents->My Games->Skyrim->Saves

- If there's an area that always crashes for you, try running in Windowed mode, and/or using the "pcb" command in console before and/or after entering this crashtastic area (that's the "Purge Cell Buffers" command).
