All Save Games Lost?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 10:22 pm

I have a lvl 34 Nord and now none of my save games will load. Every time I try to load one it flashes the load screen for a second and then just drops to desktop.

I tried using the SMAA injector and the game froze on the loading screen and wouldn't continue. I ctrl/alt/deleted and shut down the game. I removed the SMAA set everything back to normal, now the game crashes on ALL save games.

I am running 1.3.10 and played on it for hours and hours with no problems. Saved/loaded many times.

I have only a few mods:
Realistic Water
Tytanis Ultimate Mod
Lost Art of the Blacksmith
More Craftables
dD Enhanced Blood Textures
HeadBomb's Better Sorting
Plus some simple graphic mods

I have checked my hardware, it is all in perfect order. Mid-level stuff, but I play on high with 2xAA/FXAA/8AF. VERY few ini edits (shadows and the map menu). I have only had 2 ctd's the entire time I have owned the game. It was rock-solid stable until I tried SMAA, but I can't believe that is the cause.

I have used BOSS on my load order, so mods are ordered correctly.
I have used Wrye Bash and none of my saves are in red. Not that it matters because even the ones in blue (perfect health) are crashing.

I have disabled each mod one at time, same crashes.
I have reinstalled the entire game, same crashes.
I have moved back down to 1.1 and 1.3.7 both with LAA, same crashes.
I tried using my backed up saves. Same crashes.
Save file size is only about 7mb. Data folder less than 2GB.

The only saves that work AT ALL are brand new ones that I make when I start a new game (YES, starting a new game works perfectly). I am at a loss.

Do I REALLY have to start over until Wrye Bash is in a mature enough state to salvage saves?

Any ideas? I am up for anything!

A few of those mods don't necessarily play nice together. What I would do:

- goto saves folder, copy my last 10 or so to a safe location as backup
- remove all .esp mods
- load/test
- reinsert one by one, load/test after each

My GUESS is that your answer is in the ultimate/blacksmith/craftables combo. You likely have already tried this method :( Most likely, those saves are lost though, I hate to say.

Yeah, I unfortunately already tried all of that. I even made backups of the saves, removed the mods, had Wrye Bash update the masters and then try to load it. Same crash. Strange that those mods played fine together for about 20 damn saves...and they work fine together on a new game.

Did you do any ini tweaks? Fiddling with the SMAA injector could have forced the game to rewrite it.
