Smithing. + Enchanting

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 5:14 am

Does simply using smithing and enchanting make the game ray mode, or does that only happen I you abuse the system? I'm trying to make a battl-Mage and plan on using enchanting to give magicka regen to armor and then use staffs. Smithing will be used to upgrade armor/weapons to legendary. Both skills will remain at 100 with per tenant perks. Again, will this break my game or will it be relatively balanced?

on expert mode i have leveled and perked smithing and enchanting, along with just leveling alchemy (no perks yet). at level 25 i find that dragon priests and deathlords are still exciting fights.

also:
i find it more rewarding to not power level smithing. when i start seeing dwarven gear i perk/craft dwarven. when i see orcish i perk/craft orcish. and so on...

Does fortify magick jut increase magic pool? Is there anyway to increase the regen rate of magic in combat?

you could in theory, get 2 schools of magic to cast for almost free, or 4 schools for 50% less cost... more effective then magicka regen. Not sure exactly how many items will take fortify magic school enchantments. I just have conjuration, and all spells are free.

No, the way to stay active for longer in battle is to lower spell cost.

Technically regen still works in combat, just drastically reduced to the point of being useless.

As for the original question: enchanting is a thing of moderation
Too much and you abuse the system and the game becomes boring.
...too little and you will barely get 2 spells off before running out of mana and having to run around in circles for 5-minute battles.

At max enchanting you can fortify destruction for 25% cost reduction. You do that on 4 pieces of gear and you cast destruction for free. Since you can enchant 2 effects on 1 piece, this means you can have 2 schools cast for free. I had destruction and restoration for fighting.

If you think that's too cheap/easy then you can do 75% reduction and add magic resistances. Or health, or magicka or whatever you want to add. 1 on 1 fights with Impact and free casts means easy kills. Heck, my 42 mage with no professions can kill stuff using Impact on Master. Just need to stun them and then run away to regen mana since I don't have 100% cost reduction.

I'm working on a pure Mage build, and I'm still debating which enchants to use. 4 x Fortify Destruction seems like a no brainer, but what should I do with the other four Fortify slots? Conjuration for free summons? Resto for free heals? 50/50 Conjuration/ Resto?

I guess I'm asking what school pure Mages use most frequently in combat after Destruction.

I'm level 26 thief on master difficulty

I really enjoy crafting so I focused on bow, enchant, smithing , alchemy.

I found that at my level, the game is still fairly balanced. Though I have been pumping mostly stamina so im basically using a glass cannon build. I think I have approx 180 health and typically get 1-2 shorted by many upgraded enemies.

I suggest going with master difficulty for a triple craft build. I also suggest rping to a certain extent to limit yourself so you don't feel like youre in god mode.
