Shield Bash Perk line, worth it?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 5:25 am

Topic.

Is the right side of the blocking tree worth it?

I am making an up close block and slash Redguard, so I wanna focus on defense a lot. Will these bash perks come into use, or do they just svck up Stamina and Perk allocation?

High level warriors inquire within. XD

In short, no. Waste of perks. There are 250 something perks. You only get 81.

Absolutely! Block is my main skill, and I'm loving all the perks I've chosen. The only downside is that you require a fairly large stamina pool, or quick stamina regeneration (a light armour perk helps with this, as well as the Redguard racial ability), but once you invest in it shield bashes are a lifesaver - for example, to take down the enemies' defenses, to interrupt enemies' power attacks, to stop dragons' elemental attacks, or with a power shield bash to gain more time than normal to slip in some attacks.

I still haven't got the disarm perk, and I'm not sure I will since I don't think I power shield bash enough to warrant it, but shield bashing is definetely worth it.

I have noticed how useful normal shield bashes are. I was looking if the Power Shield bash with the damage boost was really worth it. I may only use the left side of the tree then put those perks to use somewhere else.

So you say the power shield bash perk give you more time for strikes, aka they stagger longer? How much longer?

If you use a bash at all (shield or with 2h) it's very much worth it.

I stuck with mainly the left side of the tree since I use my shield mainly defensively. But if you're big on using your shiled more as a weapon, I'd go the right side (and possibly left side as well) all the way.

Hell you could make a dwarven like warrior aka shield brother that mainly used shields for def and off. Could be really fun to play.

For me regular shield bash and quick reflexes perk is invaluable to stop folks from power attacking me. Great for evading attacks while being mobbed by multiple foes as well.

I love shield bashes
haven't gone all the way up the right side yet but so far I'm digging it
hard hitting melee enemies often never get a chance to hit me because I just shield bash the living daylights out of them
also makes combat a lot more interesting than just slicing away as fast as you can

Is Power Bash necessary to stagger Giants and Dragons? Because if so, it is definitely worth it. Otherwise, it is still good to get an upper hand in combat, but it does take a good amount of stamina...

There is also a shield that does extra bleed damage when you smack people, so that is nice. Targe of Blood... or something like that... Bloody Bashing? idk. I got it in the Dwemer Ruin during the MQ

Not sure if it's absolutely necessary, but I've gotten as far as the disarm perk and find it useful if only in certain situations. You do need plenty of stamina though for this type of build, but I find it suits my character which is more important to me then having the best possible build.

Yes, worth every perk. It pays to have a sizable stamina pool, (investing in stamina and having fortify stamina enchanted gear will seriously help with this).

Power Bash is seriously useful for staggering mages and landing a killing blow (having the Shield of Ysgramor. +20 Health, Resist Magic 20% gives you an edge against mages).Disarming Bash is great against 2H weapon users.

Yes, definatly worth it
