Various Control Problems

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 4:41 am

I keep having various errors in my PC version of Skyrim. It's almost like some of my controls are 'stuck' in a certain way.

Let me explain the problem the best that I can.

For example, after playing the game for a while, I can no longer switch back and forth from First Person to Third Person. All of a sudden it switches to Third Person. I press 'F' to switch back to First, it starts to zoom back into the point of view, then suddenly it zooms back out to third. No matter how many times I do this, it refuses to go back into first person.

Another similar problem:

When leveling up (in the 'constellation perk' screen), let's say I select 'Archery', it immediately zooms all the way back to the very last perk. It does not allow me to navigate around to look at other perks. When I try to exit this screen, a similar problem happens as before. It starts to zoom out, but then it suddenly zooms back to regular view.

Another Problem:

When I open up my menu screens, it refuses to let me select anything. As I move my mouse over the options (for example, selecting a saved game to load), the different lines light up, but then when I rest the mouse over them they are not clickable at all.

Another Problem:

When I select 'Rest' or 'Sleep', the slider that allows you to select how many hours slides all of the way over to '24'. I cannot undo this or control it at all.

The Most Annoying Problem through All of This:

It is inconsistent. When I re-load one of my games, it's back to normal. Then suddenly at some random point in time, all of this starts out of no where.

Please, if anyone has an idea of what is wrong with my Skyrim controls, I would appreciate the help incredibly.

Quick Specs:

Skyrim (1.3.1 Patch)
Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel Core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
4.00G of Ram
Intel HD Graphics Card

Thanks again!

The game REQUIRES a real, actual, discrete graphics card. It cannot be "played" without one. You have none, so you are out of luck until you get one. And you can't just go get the cheapest thing there is. That won't be any better than the Intel tinker toy you have now. The card should be one that was actually designed for game playing.

Albeit a little unnecessarily harsh, I appreciate the help. I'll just play it on my desktop, then. I was hoping I could get by on this one since I've played SEVERAL other higher-processing games on it absolutely fine.

Given all of that, it seems a little perplexing that my graphics card would randomly effect my controls. I mean, I have the thing on the lowest settings it looks/plays great other than these random errors.

EDIT: I just compared the specs of my Intel HD Graphics Card to that of Skyrim's minimum requirements. It meets everything. DirectX 10.0 Compatible, at least 512 MB. It does both.

The thing about this game and video cards is that the game box tells everyone what is required. Yes, the official requirements are crap, meaningless when referring to CPUs, but the words VIDEO CARD are clear enough, and one version or another of "take off the blindfold" before making the purchase, or removing the shrink wrap on the gift, have been a regular refrain, and perhaps I was slightly more testy feeling, after the 49th, or 50th, of you complained, dunno, really.

The very latest Intel video solution, inside of Sandy Bridge, supposedly has all of the required functions, however, the drivers are screwy. The image quality has to be poor, and without VRAM (nope, you have NONE at all), the controls have to be greatly inhibited, it's in the nature of the system they are using, I believe. Like ordinary IGPs, it uses ordinary system memory it steals from the OS.

Sons of various b*****s, you're right. I went into the BIOS, it only uses 128 of VRAM, not 512 like I had thought. No way to change that. Now I'm kicking myself for not paying the extra 50 bucks for the better graphics card when I chose between the two different laptops earlier this year.

Like I said, I have a desktop with a video card that is more than qualified for the job. I can log plenty of hours on that...I was just hoping that this laptop would be suffice.

And don't worry about being testy. If this is the umpteenth time you've heard someone complain like this, then you have a right to be a little frustrated.

Thanks again for the help.
