Black square popup in upper right hand corner

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 8:16 am

When I'm playing Skyrim, every few seconds I get an annoying black square that pops up in the upper right hand corner. It happens extremely quickly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skyrim but that didn't do anything. My hardware is in my sig and I'm running the latest amd drivers and the latest Skyrim update. I have mods but the glitch happens whether they're on or not. I've tried recording the issue with fraps, but even though I can see it on screen fraps doesn't show it, so that may be a clue. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If I helps I'm almost positive it's a Skyrim issue because it only happens in this game.

Delete every single file associated with a mod. Every one of them.

This is actually a fairly uncommon problem with other games to, like Starcraft 2.

It seems it's not the game, it's desktop composition that could be causing it. Try turning it off (disable windows aero) see if that fixes it.

Yeah I forgot to mention that this issue has existed before I had installed any mods, so I doubt mods are the problem. My computer has Windows 7 basic so that means aero is already off correct? If so that's not the problem

I've seen this on other games when I tried various Windows Gadgets.

Huh, you mean stuff like the cpu/ram usage meter? I'll try disabling them and see if that does anything.

Was about to post this, but you beat me to it. I sometimes see a slight flicker in several games when my CPU Meter thingy decides (I guess) that's IT'S on top for a fraction of a second... This is a very rare issue for me however, so I keep my gadgets enabled.

Yep turning off the Windows gadgets solved it. Well I'm never using those again, didn't even really need them anyways.
