I'm in Saarthal near Windhelm and I've come across those spinning pillar puzzles (with the three images on them, eagle, whale, snake). Usually, in other dungeons, there would be clues to what the correct combination would be, but here I couldn't find anything that would give any hint. problem is, there are 6 pillars, so many combos and I haven't hit the correct one (and each time you don't get it right and pull the switch, you get hit by poison arrows).
Anyone know the correct combo? I went back and checked but I couldn't see anything that would give a hint.

if i remember right, equip a torch and look above each pillar, it shows you the correct symbol to use

Yes, I did finally see that. Was too busy looking in the other rooms to find a clue and missed the obvious. Thanks.

I did the same, ran around trying to work it out before i just so happened to equip a torch and got lucky lol glad i could help.

I was actually SO frustrated with this puzzle I thought I like missed a tablet with clues or something and scourged the whole dungeon just to accidentally see the answer behind each pillar like an hour later. Witches be crazy.

Thanks for the heads up, but can any of you tell me where I may have missed the key to get into Saarthal in the first place? It's the last section of the amulet I need to obtain to complete quest, but I can't figure out why I can't get into it.

You have to start the College quest line to have access to it. Go be an Arch-Mage!
