Skyrim Character Challenge

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 11:32 am

Like many I've logged a ton of hours into Skyrim and I'm looking for a fun character build that would be super challenging. I'm not looking for anything silly, such as no map, or eating and sleeping. Some background; I've tried all conventional arch-types such as paladins, barbarians, assassins, illusion mages, conjuration mages, destruction mages, hunters, you name it. The most fun I had was with my conjuration mage who's secondary was in alteration. Those where his only two skills and he was insanely powerful (funny because he never killed anything directly).

I limit myself to one weapon type or offensive magic, one crafting type and a few support skills excluding those you inadvertently level such as speechcraft and lockpicking; of course on master difficulty.

So I'm looking for fun ideas for character builds that are challenging and use no more than a few skills and preferably no crafting skills. Although I was thinking about making a poisoner who specializes in poisons and reverse pickpocketing, perhaps with a bow or whatever else feels right. No armor training, no magic. Might be terrible, might be awesome. So for this type of character you'd need, Alchemy, Pickpocketing, Sneak, and Archery. Four skills and you'd wear whatever clothing from wherever you want.

Anyhow, I'm hoping to get some good feedback on this, maybe something like a dead is dead type of mode. With options, like with dragons or without dragons, no daedric artifacts (which would overpower this type of gameplay), no guild armor, etc, or you can only pick up bows, potions, ingredients and misc items. The goal is to make a tough challenge and try to succeed and make it into higher levels into a powerhouse (of poison for instance) while severely limiting your options to game the system and get overwhelmingly powerful. The goal is to not add tedium to the game; such as you must sleep every six hours or your character can't possible fight five enemies in a row, go rest.

Surely some fun unconventional combinations exist to have fun with.

I'm making a redgaurd battlemage type...I have enchanting and smithing. I deleted alchemy because I don't need it. I can just use more heavy armor perks. i'm limiting the armor types I can use to avoid being a complete powerhouse. It works out because I found a lot of armors sort of dumb looking.

Combat Element:
One handed (just damage, and blade perks ---maybe dual wield)
Destruction (MAJOR probably all of the perks)

Defense:
Restoration (MAJOR need help with this one)
Heavy Armor (just some of the perks like weight and movement and base protection, NOT benefits of full suit etc...)
Alchemy - backup if run too low on magika (and so i can make food and sell it)

To ensure high armor rating:
Smithing
Enchanting (only armor not my weapons)

Economic Benefit:
Lockpicking (treasure to be found you know)
Speech (need to make money some how, and can't increase my pocket size)

I want to avoid having too many spells and all that. I don't like carrying a lot of clutter, so the speechcraft thing comes in handy there I think...I didn't add all of the smithing armors b/c some of them look dumb and I can just upgrade my armor and use enchantments.

Maybe try fighting everything with only your fists, wearing nothing except a Fine Hat and keeping your weight under 20.

Glad you were so bored you could pop in and add that useful feedback. Heaven forbid I not create a thread to discuss something interesting thats not OP builds or where to find another daedric quest.

Unarmed Heavy Armor with Enchanting and 2 magic schools of your choice.

You cannot use any weapons, including bows and staves. No shields either.

You may level smithing, however you are not allowed to put any perks in smithing. Ditto sneak and alchemy.

I would recommend Illusion as one of your schools, since fury, calm, frenzy, silent castong, and invisibility are useful. Alteration is also a good choice, for the armor boost, magic resist, and late game paralysis.

If you're feeling really masochistic, you can refuse to play as Khajiit, Orc, or Breton.

The key thing here is your perks. You can only perk Heavy Armor, Enchanting, and the two magic schools you choose. I might make allowances for pickpocket, lockpicking, and speech, if you start to stockpile perks.
