PS3 convert

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 11:27 am

I purchased the game for PS3 and can no longer play it due to games freezes. Concensus seems to be that it is unlikley the new patch will be able to address the PS3 problems in any significant way so... I am going to try to return my game (wish me luck). I could try to exchange it for the PC version, but don't want to trade one set ofproblems for another..

Can anyone give me a quick over view of any issues with PC's?

Before you go spend money blindly, go into the sticked thread about computer hardware at the top of this forum and figure out if your computer can run the game. Do it there, don't keep this thread going with that sort of request.

Appologies - my question is not about whether or not my computer meets the specfications. Trust me, it does. The question is are there game ending glitches with the PC version as there are with the PS3 version? Can you redirect me to the thread then, that addresses this question.
Thanks in advance.

My apologies, typically people who buy bethesda games for the consoles only do so because their PCs are otherwise ancient and/or under performers ;) No real show-stopper bugs and honestly any issues like that are usually at least by-passable using console commands. Modders have figure out that bethesda's compiling efforts are a fat fail but work-arounds are now in place that for most of us give a solid +50% FPS in CPU heavy areas but at this point CTDs are generally caused by people's rigs not the game itself (generally, generally people).

Why would you get it for the ps3 if your computer can handle the game fine? Everybody knows that the pc is always superior over console games. I got it for the ps3 because my comp can't handle it.

mouse keyboard for Skryim is terrible compared to the controller....I use a 360 controller for Skyrim on the PC best of both worlds.

From now on, I will automatically hold everything you say as ridiculous and invalid.

Oh my god, someone's using a CONSOLE piece of equipment with the godly PC?

Hey, I prefer to use a controller with Skyrim. The interface is designed for it, and it makes fighting a lot easier.

Amateur dramatics aside.... answering the OP's question

The PC, like PS3 suffers from save file bloat at present - after 150-300 hours the game starts suffering corruption in certain cells and interiors.

However unlike the PS3 there are unofficial mods and optimisations that help mitigate this and they will get even better with time, and the presence of console commands and batch files means that even if the save DOES break, it is possible to create a sort've "new game+" by re-creating your old character in a new save.

Many of the other game-specific bugs found in the console versions are also present in the PC version. But again, workarounds an fixes are possible thanks to mods and the console. 99% of problems that would be gamebreaking on a console (Like the ice-wraith-stuck-to-my-foot bug) are fixable on PC, albeit present

I am playing the game on the PC. I am currently at 75+ hours and have not seen any major bugs. The game has crashed very little for me (once in the two weeks since upgrading to 1.3.10, and maybe twice for the 2 weeks before that with the unofficial LAA launcher). I love the additional graphics enhancements provided by ENBSeries, and by tweaking profile in NVIDIA Inspector to add SSAO and improve quality of AA. Performance is fantastic since mods like SkyBoost (or TESVAL if you prefer) helped out. THE default UI is terrible for Mouse + Keyboard, but adding SkyUI and Categorized Favorites menu makes all the difference. An whoever told you that it is better with a controller is plain wrong. I love my 8 hotkeys. There are quest bugs in the PC version supposedly, but I have not run into any big ones yet 9except the repeating Red Eagle one, which is now fixed in 1.3.10). The January update is supposed add even more quest issue fixes, and provide some optimization too. The PC version is the definitive release of the game, although it took a few months to get there with the help of the mods. With PS3, you have no ini tweaks, console commands, or mods. That is just no way to play this game.
