Giant Radscorpions: The scariest thing in the desert.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:12 am

I have yet to encounter any other enemy that shrugs off my attacks as easily as Giant Radscorpions do. Even compared to Deathclaws, I am more scared of these things.

Switch to a higher damage (not DPS - damage) weapon to tear through their DR. Sniper rifles work well for this, since being far away is a good way to kill them reasonably safely.

I hate them both. I have to plan my travel around whether or not either of them are in the area (at the moment, anyway).

The 10mm Pistol seems to be the only weapon I have ready access to at the moment that cuts through them.

I hate them for the sole reason that one attacked as soon as I exited Doc's house. It killed easy Pete and and some other people in Goodspring, and it chased me around until all those peoples valiant efforts to save me reduced it to one health, allowing me to kill it. I was playing on Very Hard/hardcoe. I also find that AP rounds seem to work well on them.

I was checking out the buried airplane and saw 4 Night Stalkers (1 regular, 3 smaller ones). I took them out and lost half my health and saw a Giant Radscorpian... I started shooting at it from a distance... and it closed on me... fast. I took off sneak mode, ran backwards firing... My first (and only, so far) non-intentional in-game death. My only intentional death was using the grenade rifle (Best Buy pack) to try blowing up cars (Which don't, which really svcks). I accident winged a NCR guy and so I continued the process of blowing myself up.

I had a damn PLASMA RIFLE, at like 50% condition, and it couldn't cut through their armor. WTF?

One thing I learned from the loading screens is weapons that have a high DPS but low Damage aren't good for armored creatures. (When viewing your weapons, it will slowly oscillate between Dam and DPS)

Yea it's tough, and it's how Fallout 3 should have been. Bethesda went easy on 3.

AP rounds on a high damage per shot weapon will make short work of them.

Gaint scorpions are nothing compared to the cazadores. They take quite a bit damage to drop and they come in swarms. You can't outrun them either.

Veronica absolutely destroys them with her power fist.

I'd assume a player used power fist would have the same affect.

Try encountering Giant Radscorpions that has 5843509534858 of its lesser minions around to help it. x_x I accidentally wandered into such a situation once... obviously, I die. Horribly. Painfully.

The plasma rifle has like 25 DAM and it's still doing jack crap.

Veronica does great against them with a Power Fist, but not when there's 3-4 at once.

And bleep the cazadores, hate those things.

I think I'll try the flamethrower on them. I heard that does wonders.

They're vicious because they have a very high Damage Threshold. I took that one medical perk that allows you to see that detail, and it's something disgustingly high in the 30s I think? Therefore, you really need a high damage (not DPS) weapon to penetrate their armor.

I still think Deathclaws are worse, but only because they rush in faster and mess you up QUICK!!!
