My Long Distance Models Not Loading

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 7:17 pm

Hi all,

The long distance low res models aren't loading for buildings.

For example, at the beginning when bleak Falls Barrow is pointed out on route to the first village, I can't see it, and Winterhold doesn't exist until you get close.

I have edited my ini, and all was working before I took a 3 week break from the game.

Only mods are lighting, map, and sky texture changes.

Any suggestions?

What's the default ini setting for the line that controls this?

I think seeing as your game is no longer default, that is where you need to start to find the cause.

Delete all mods and all files associated with the mods, including the texture and meshes folders etc. delete your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini also.

When you start the game, choose a setting that your pc can handle and it'll create ini files again.

In theory as you removed everything like I said, it should be all normal.

Also check to see you actually have the setting Distant Buildings on.

I wasn't aware Bethesda still supported that option.

I'm not at my pc so can't check, I was just shooting an arrow in the dark there ;)

I think it may be in the ini though. Again, god only knows right now :)

Ok I reset the ini, to no affect. I then tried cranking every setting to do with LOD in the ini to twice the default ultra setting, and nothing happened.

Where is this distant building option?

Edit: Ok, well that explains why I can't find it

Post a dxdiag report. Also, can we have a screenshot of the issue?

Ok, reinstalled the sky/lighting mods, and reverted ini. Everything is fine.

Must have me the mod changing the 3d map, or an accidental ini typo.
