Running Skyrim on this laptop (ASUS N61Jq)?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 10:39 am

I have recently completed my education, and am eager to start doing some gaming again. Naturally, as a Norwegian who love the Elder Scrolls, Skyrim has a greater appeal than any other game on the market. My problem is that I don't know whether I should purchase Skyrim now and try playing it on my current laptop, or put it off for a few months until I can purchase a desktop specialized for gaming. I don't want to play Skyrim now if I can't use decent graphic settings. I'd appreciate it if someone can consider my laptop's specifications, and let me know how well Skyrim would perform on it.

In other words... how well will Skyrim run on a computer with these specs?

ASUS N61Jq
Intel Core i7 CPU Q720 1.60GHz
6,00 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6570M Series
64-bit Windows 7 Professional

Thanks for your time.

Your CPU is a bit on the low side, and your GPU. You could play it. But if you're definitely getting the new PC in a few months, as hard as it is I'd wait. You'll have a much better experience with it.

I'll wait then, as I want the experience to be ideal. The great thing about Skyrim is that it'll be an even more superior game by then, as well, thanks to the mod community.

In any case, thanks for the heads-up!

On medium the game could run well. Dont see problems with an i7(!) and 6570M Series. I saw the game on a laptop with a lower cpu and graphic run on medium right well, just here and there some lags.

The problem is that clock speed of 1.6 ghz is very low compared to the minimum requirement of 2.0 ghz. Skyrim isn't great at using multiple cores. I wouldn't want to buy the game without demoing it somehow first for that laptop.

I have the same laptop and am having a good experience playing Skyrim. However, I play it on 1280x720 resolution on a monitor with a max resolution of 1920.

I put the graphics settings to "low," raised the texture quality to "high," and put all the view distances on max. I also am using Skyboost and FXAA post process injector, as well as high resolution texture mods. With those settings and mods, I am very much enjoying the graphics. I also get consistent FPS of 30-35+ outdoors, and 50+ indoors. It looks great, plays great, and is an awesome game.

There already has been a Master thread for your question, right up at the top, here:

Thus, there is no need at all for still another duplicate of the same thread.
