360 Controller + Keyboard?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 4:05 pm

Is there any way to use a 360 controller with my PC and supplement it with the keyboard for hotkeys, etc?

Yes, think it works fine like that by default.

If you use the 360 controller it disables the keyboard except for the console key.

Derp I have been going into options and setting it back to keyboard to input console commands.....guess it would have been smart to try the key first >.<

Ahah, it did disable the key in New Vegas however, so don't feel too stupid :P

So can I assume that this is not possible?

Or is it possible to mod this functionality somehow? Because I really like playing with the 360 controller, but there are also things that I love about using the keyboard...

Doh oh well - my options must have been a bit weird when I started playing as I had my controller plugged in, the x360 option ticked in options but was using keyboard and mouse (hence struggled with odd Y axis movement until I unticked the option). Presume if I'd actually tried to use the pad it might have disabled the keys.

You also get control of the keyboard when renaming an enchanted item, so no need to switch to keyboard.

It's totally doable! I use an Xbox controller and sometimes quick saves with the keyboard and use the console. The keyboard is not disabled by using a controller. At least not a wireless Xbox controller.

I use a wireless 360 controller and YES it does disable my keyboard (~ works though).
It is annoying, you would think Bethesda would have thought of this.
Every other game I play with my 360 controller allows me to use the keyboard at the same time and some of those games were made before the 360.

Come on Beth fix this, don't make modders do your work for you.

My 360 controller is wired (old school baby!) but I guess I'll just have to experiment once I get the game downloaded and tweak what I can and see if I can get it to work the way I want it too. Thanks guys!

WTB wired
Is that where to buy?

Or way to buy?

If its where, I don't honestly remember, it was a long time ago that I got it.

and if way to buy then thank you kind sir! I prefer the wired over the wireless for some reason.

Actually, you can enable all keys on the keyboard to work whilst using the 360 controller. It requires some complex editing of a configuration file. Check the posts from wiz0floyd in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1315229-using-a-controller-and-mousekeyboard-simultaneously/thread for instructions.
