my FOV tweaks to the ini files don't seem to be taking

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 7:13 pm

In Skyrim and Skyrimprefs ini files in the My Documents Skyrim folder, I've added
fdefaultfov=90 in the [General] section. I haven't noticed a change in the game.

I then added fDefaultWorldFOV=90 and fDefault1stPersonFOV=90.0000 in {Display} in the Skyrim ini. What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks.

Same problem. However for mine. World/View FOV will remain 90 but any time I fast travel, load new cells, indoor/outdoor or swap weapons my hands FOV will go back down and needs to be reset to 90 by typing in the command

Oh, come on, people, where is your sense of elemental problem solving?

Just place those settings in both ini files files under both sections (2x2x3=12 lines altogether), and it will stick. With time you can then experiment, if you so desire, to see which ones are actually needed.

Add to skyrim.ini

[General]
fdefaultfov=90

[Display]
fDefaultWorldFOV=90

You will need to hit TAB to set the change for the first time, after which It'll be saved.

all my entries are under the skyrim.ini "display" and nothing is under general... file located in the your "documents\my games\skyrim" folder

fDefaultWorldFOV=100
fDefault1stPersonFOV=100.0000
fDefaultFOV=100.0000

Refer to the NVIDIA Tweak Guide, it will tell you what you need to do http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide.

the fov is iffy. To get it to stick I had to have these lines in:

Skyrim.ini
[Display]
fDefault1stPersonFOV=85.0000
fDefaultWorldFOV=85.0000
fDefaultFOV=85.0000
[General]
fdefaultfov=85

Replace 85 with whatever fov you are using ofc. Now for the important part.

Load a save, hit the tilde key. Type "fov 85" (or whatever you are using). Hit enter then make a new save. Load up the save and the the game shouldnt revert to default when you load any save after that.

Yea this was all I had to do, use fov command ingame and all saved games made after that always had it enabled and it would stick to that as well and not revert back.

fDefault1stPersonFOV is only for hands in 1st person. Don't set above 75 or greatsword might look like dagger.
fDefaultWorldFOV is for the world in both 1st and 3rd and map. Around 80 is ok, fisheye if too high.
fDefaultFOV is for inventory 3D icons, books and lockpicking. Do not change, leave it at 65 or icons get misplaced.

Put them in Skyrim.ini only under display section.

To see changes in game press tab for character menu then go map and close it. Don't use console fov command before or after, it won't load ini values properly and won't save these values to your savegame. So just start game, do the map trick, save game and never worry again about fov changing on its own.
