I just found out what really ruins the immersion for me.....

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 3:53 pm

So I decided to finally go to Winterhold. I'm still kinda low.....and I knew however I got there I would run across face killer enemies. So!.....I decided to get there by way of the shoreline in the North.

Anyway, it's snowing like crazy, there are walrusses and grizzly bears everywhere, and I'm walking on frozen water and small glaciers.........and I have shorts and a shirt on.

Seriously, I ran across 3 guys standing around drinking all with shorts and shirts too. There should be some sort of requirement that if you're going to be in that northern area you have to kill something and get its fur and make some sort of throw over coat.....or buy one.

It's so ridiculous that it's probably around -20 dagrees arond that area and I look like someone whos questing in Florida.

Nords have 50% frost resistance, that counts for weather too!

Unless you're a different race.

Yeah, hopefully once the CK is out people will turn their attention to some Immersion mods. That if you don't eat, drink or sleep, you suffer and hopefully eventually die. Also, damage from the cold. Atleast I know *I* am waiting for mods such as this.

Yeah, I was travelling up near Winterhold, and a crazy blizzard was going on. Then I looked down, and saw that there was a controller in my hands.

Totally killed the immersion.

Yea i met them too.

They were like "it's a fine day today friend! Have a drink with us!" and we were in the middle of a snowstorm at the dead of the night.

Maybe they were high on skooma? :P

Considering the UI is a total pain to use with a mouse, I don't see it as a problem.

You know they live in a desert areas with patches of jungle on the borders of their homeland right ? Would an African lion survive long on the North/South poles ?

I wouldn't go so far as to say it "ruins immersion" but it does seam kinda funny that they didn't include some warmer looking clothes.

I know Nords resist cold but I bet my Imperial is freezing his ass off.

That's why I keep some "flawless" fur armor for the cold places.

This just made me decide to make my next character Otzi the Iceman.

Fur armor, fur gear, hunting bow, iron axe (they don't have copper), iron dagger.

Skills, archery, one hand, alchemy, smithing.

Sweet!

I agree. Especially if we go swimming in ice-cold water, we'd not regenerate stamina at all for a while, magicka regeneration would be extremely slow, health regeneration would stop for while and when we are in the cold water itself, we'd take damage.

Yeah OP is right. Kinda silly that a lowly frost spell will at least do some damage but the raging blizzard around the character does nothing. Looking forward to mod that turns blizzards into damage zones (like RAD zones in Fallout)

Yea I had this thought myself. I tried to imagine what it would actually be like swimming around under those ice sheets and bergs...

You'd probably die after about 10 minutes, honestly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_swimming :P <---Nords

i've met those drinkers before and tbh i half expected to see them dead later on with frostbite or something.
as random encounters go it didnt make a lot of sense as nothing really happned.
i did take a drink off them but i half expected to wake up somewhere but it didn't happen...maybe its bugged i dunno.

Are you a nord?

Because nords are resistant to frost damage :celebration:

I can see this being mod territory. Maybe you get a debuff if you venture into a
cold area without proper clothing?

I'd go for it (and a hardcoe mode like new vegas to boot). But bethesda may not.
