Wire Frame Graphics Bug

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 10:45 pm

Hi,

I'm getting some strange graphical effects with the latest version of Skyrim off Steam, 1.3.10.0. Some creature and item meshes aren't loading, and so all I see is an ugly/psychedelic purple/blue wire frame outline with no textures!

I haven't seen this exact problem reported anywhere, though I did see creature textures replaced by solid colors. This bug is new for me, or at least I have some serious play time in and this only started happening after recent patches (within last couple weeks perhaps?). Actually, it seems correlated with the last update to fix the 4 GB issue, though I'm not sure about it.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling the local content in Steam and defragging, updating my graphics drivers, resetting all the user .ini files, and fiddling a lot with the display settings, e.g. all the standard stuff, but nothing changes it. It is like the textures are missing or failing to load. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen a similar effect where textures fail to load on certain levels or with certain kinds of enemies/npcs and you see this type of effect?

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll post more detailed info if needed.

Purple lack of textures? That's typically Skyrim saying 'no more memory, resort to ugly purple and hope the user gives me more reasonable settings for the hardware I'm using', paraphrasing of course.

Also: Manditory "Please tell us a little more about your system before we can in any way shape or form help you." Hardware, driver versions etc, mods in play, general settings levels, etc.

JMC, you incredibly helpful person, that's exactly the issue, even down to the area, which is Labyrinthian. Some are saying it is an intended effect, though it looks like a glitch, rather than like a ghost.
Thanks! Nothing to see here, I guess (?).

Out of curiosity, is anyone here CTD while travelling with a companion at all? I have that one guy who is heading for a pilgrimage to Eldergleam, where I'm going to retrieve a branch, and he was killed along the way. Now, when I go past Whiterun I'm fine...hmmm. Will have to do more extensive testing later, it's bedtime here and I need sleep for work tomorrow = ) If any of you are interested I'd like to know if you dismiss or otherwise remove your companions, if you're able to continue. Cheers, keep testing and searching for ways to work around this CTD stuff guys!
