Can I improve the shadow quality?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 3:16 am

So... i launched the game for the first time in 3 weeks because I was bored to death..

So anyway, I just noticed how extreamly horrible the shadow quality is in this game, can I somehow make them sharper? really, there is a pixle war goin on, on the ground!

For the love of god, PLEASE do not look at snow covered rocks! (J/k :D)

What you want to do is head over to the skyrim nexus, and search for shadow fixes. Tons of them that'll do the job.

Look at the pinned thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1308114-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide-from-nvidia/

As said many times here. Shadow distance is linked with quality so lower the shadow distance, better quality the shadows will be.

There are numerous topics on the issue.
I made one too, a while ago, you can have a look at it, maybe it helps:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1312478-the-different-shadow-settings-in-the-ini/

It will be hard to get shadows that are sharp, have a reasonable draw distance and don't kill your performance.
I went for slightly blurred shadows, which looks more realistic, imho, and masks the pixelated looks.
You can find my settings with some explanations in the link above.

You can also have a look at the NVidia Tweak Guide for Skyrim, there are some explanations on the different shadow settings, too.

It's doesn't matter, the settings are for Skyrim, just skip the NVIDIA settings part.
