Updating on Steam?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 7:10 pm

Hey everyone,

I just got Skyrim for the PC, i have it for PS3, and have had it since launch. I got it because i wanted to play around with all the mods and stuff, and PS3 is having wayyyy too many problems right now. I downloaded off of steam site, but i have no idea how to tell what update im running on. Also, how do i download updates? or does it just automatically download when i open up skyrim on steam.

Thanks

Steam will keep it automagically updated, btw you can tell which version the game currently is by checking out the menu in-game (pressing esc in game to bring up the load/save/etc menu, the version number is in the lower left corner)

There are not going to be any Mods for the PS3 version !! (Modding is strictly a PC thing for this series of games since SONY and MS will not allow user made content to be installed on their systems so the only expansions are ones released directly by Bethesda in the form of paid DLC content) EDIT : Just reread and noticed that you purchased PC version -- so you should be good to go !

Lovely thing about steam is that you click purchase, wait 25 minutes, install and play. No searching for patches, no booting the game up, trying to get online and realizing you need some miscellaneous file, Steam makes things very easy.

"Steam servers too busy"
"game currently unavailable"
"cannot connect to Steam cloud"
"game unavailable in your country"

It took me 4 hours to reinstall Skyrim today, and I was installing from a disc.

Well that's easy to fix: Move to North America. Duh. :P

/yah I know, we North Americans have it pretty good when it comes to things like Steam.

When I was looking for a solution I came across a guy from Boston who had exactly the same problem. So no, crossing the Atlantic won't help me ;)

Did you select it to install from disk?

Yes, it wasn't the installation that took 4 hours, I spent all this time getting Steam to run properly. It recognized I had a disc - didn't try to download - but still displayed the "servers too busy" message. It might have been because of the patches that had to be downloaded, but that's just a guess. It finally let me install after two hours, but then I couldn't run it, fixing which took me another while.
Anyway, it's working now, so all's good.
