Game freezes when I try to read certain books. I an still here the sounds in background and the mouse pointer moves correctly. But there is no response from the game for whatever I do. So I have to use Alt+Ctrl+Del to get out.

It happens all the time no matter where I am or which quest I am in. But it happens with only certain books.

Books that are giving me problems:
Whiteruns's home decoration guide,
Lost Legends,
A Gentleman's Guide to Whiterun,
The Holds of Skyrim,
The woodcutter's wife
.. thats all I can remember for now.

If you see these books on the floor or in a shelf, they all have a faded brown cover. If you put any of these books in your inventory (which is very difficult, as when you pick up the book, game freezes. However, 'Whiteruns's home decoration guide' is added to invertory automatically) and then browse the list of books, when you select(hover) any of the above mentioned books, there is no preview on the right side. Also once you select(hover) one of the above books, and try to read any other books/notes afterewards, the game freezes.

This happens with every instances of these books in the game world. Also if you put these books in your inventory by looting a dead body, you cannot use quick saves after this. so if you were in a cave and you got one of these books in your inventory, trying to get out will fail (I guess this is because game tries to do an auto-save).

I have copy-pasted the Data/Skyrim - Textures.bsa file from a friends installation, which was working. But it did not help. I also tried to unpack the entire textures/clutter/books folder from the bsa file. That did not help either.

I have not seen any other artifacts (such as missing textures) or anything yet. And I can read every other books without any issue. I don't want to re-download the entire game once again. So if you can point-out some files, I can download them only or copy-paste those from a friends installation.

Hmm, ths is an odd issue.

RAM: 2GB DDR2 800MHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 570 (ASUS GTX 570 DirecCu II)
HDD: WD 160GB(Game and OS are in this one), Seagate 500GB, Samsung 1.5TB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

I know this is an odd configuration, but I recently blew up my other motherboard (which was an Asus RAMPAGE). So I had to setup this temporary rig.

I have not played Skyrim in my 'older' rig.

Except the above mentioned problem with books, I do not have any other problems. For me the game has never crashed. And usually I play 5-8 hours continuously without any issues. I play at 'High' settings with custom Draw distances (reduced). I usually get 30-45 FPS outside and upto 60FPS inside.

I get the freeze for same books, so I thought it had something to do with a corrupted texture and thats why I tried Skyrim - Textures.bas from a friends computer.
