Wait for actual release or take chances with 1.4 Beta.

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:42 am

I guess using the beta will break SKSE and Scriptdragon than wont it?
Also is it worth the risk at this point or should I just wait until next week or whenever its actually out and forces you to update anyways?

the only annoying thing i'm experiencing right now is that when going to the map or sometimes loading a previous save or even transitioning from outside to inside or something like that...... i get this CRAZY BLARING extremely loud noise suddenly like i just stuck my character head under niagara falls... it sound EXACTLY like a game waterfall noise but at 2-5x the volume you would normally hear standing underneather/near it.

Talk about getting a splitting headache... jebus....

other than that.. aside from getting a boost in FPS over the skyboot.... i'm not experiencing hitching that i wasn't before most likely due to vsync.... disabling it results in it smoothing out but then poltergiest like paranormal activity starts to occur wherever i got....... i watched a tankard nearly decapitate a man when i walked through the door into one of the inns... surfice it to say... the whole chronicles of riddike senario really does seem very plausible.

death by t-cup.....

I've gotten a huge fps boost. My system is fairly modest but I have been able to push all the draw distance sliders to max with zero fps decrease. That noise though... dear lord.

Hmm. FPS is not really an issue for me anymore at this point. I mean unless it will jump to 60 and stay at 60 in places like Whiterun stairs, than I will live without.

Other things though like bloat, CTD's and what not are my concern.

Yeah, I actually went ahead and tried the beta patch, awesome frame-rate boost. It's just a shame Bethesda overlooked it on release or they make the PC/PS3 version crap to boost XBox sales. :P

There are instructions for getting the Beta in a sticky post here on the Beth Blog, it's in settings in Steam you can opt in for Beta and then choose Skyrim, to revert back if you then opt out and restart Steam it will revert back to the previous build

Nope, they aren't required anymore, 1.4 gives better performance that either of those :)

But Skyboost will be updated at some point to scraqe a little more fps out of the game.

You don't need SkyBoost or Tesval anymore with the 1.4 beta.
The reason they worked was that compiler optimizations had been turned off by Bethesda, Tesval replaced some of the unoptimized functions with better ones.
Now that Bethesda is using the optimizations in the compiler, there's no need for Skyboost or Tesval anymore.

Guess in future Skyboost will be changed to get even better performance, there are some other "areas" in the code not done yet. Unfortunately Alexander Blade have no idea where to look at, but i'm trying to give some advices, may be he will do an update. But now, remove it as incompatible, it decrease performance in beta.

Okay :D I don't complain about performance, i have almost 60fps in all areas. I guess when i will upgrade to a ivy bridge cpu, and i will bump it to a 5ghz, will be like butter.

I had nothing to lose trying the 1.4 beta patch as my game was unplayable. The patch fixed all of my serious issues and, after about 12 hours of playing, I am happy with it! :)

Sicne I have zero issues right now with 120+h played and only 3 bogus quest entries in my misc log, I'll wait until it's tested by everyone else before I migrate to it. I'm almost done with the game anyways (completed all quests except 2 and I'm currently finalizing the thieves guild to be leader but it's damn boring to redo all these repetitive small jobs) and I don't see myself restarting from zero before a while. Got a good run for my money with the game but until good DLC comes out for it, it will stay ont he shelves for a while.

Getting the same blarring noise problem as DHJudas. I updated SKSE to the 1.4 beta but still got an error message when it loaded. Despite the error message everything seemed to work OK.

Pretty sure the "risk" to your save file is running the 1.3 version at this point.

Truth to be told, SkyBoost is not needed *anymore*.

Bethesda wouldn't have done [censored] if SkyBoost hadn't been around though, so the SkyBoost dude definitely deserves massive props. Still, it's not needed.

Game runs flawlessly on ma 3.8 GHz Phenom II nao.

I've noticed in the beta that mouse lag is a lot better. I have a great GPU, and a good CPU, but my CPU is the bottleneck in Skyrim (as with most people).

I limit my FPS to 40. Before if I was in a really intensive place (such as Markarth), and I dropped from 40-30, then I'd get really bad mouse lag. Now I barely notice the drop.
