Inconsistent FPS?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:24 pm

Hi everyone!

I purchased Brink a couple of days ago and whilst I have been able to play I have been encountering some seriously mixed frame rates.

I’m currently running:

ATI 5870HD (11.5a hotfix drivers)
4 Gig Corsair Dominator
Quad Core 9450 @ 3.6ghz
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition

My frame rates on the character select screen are at the 200fps mark whilst the ingame ‘cutscenes’ are around 120-160fps.

However, in game my framerates drop to anything between 18 to 60fps. In many circumstances, when indoors, my frame rate is fine (always above 30) however the moment I step outdoors it absolutely plummets.

The second level (I forget what it’s called; the one with the big wall) is almost unplayable. The prospect of turning on V-Sync is also an absolute no go either, despite really bad screen tearing :(

I’ve installed the tweak programme and have turned on multicore rendering (2) as well as other tweaks, but sadly it hasn’t given me the constant frame rates I need for a game such as this.

Does anyone know if there is any way I can increase my frame-rate so its at least 30 consistently, especially in outdoor spaces or is it a case of it’s the game as opposed to my PC ?

Thank you for your time.

i know what you mean. i minute im getting steady 60fps with everything on max. then i have to turn stuff down on the same map. i think some of it is down to the server

patch out tomorrow hopefully to sort it out.

do you have AMD optimised tessellation on?

I have the same problem with it. There is a temporary fix, go into your Brink config program and turn off shadows (0). It helps the FPS a lot, but makes the game look rather dull, and even after doing so, I still have places where I get low FPS. And as everyone has been saying, lets hope this update can fix it so we can actually play the game with the graphics that our machines demand.

Pretty obvious answer for you: The more detail the game has to load, the more your frames are going to drop!!! It's been like this for every single game in existence....

have you tried the config utility that lets you tweak settings? that can help the FPS a lot. for some reason they dont allow you to access many options in this game.

ignore that last comment. the game is dead with this patch.

nice try SD but piss poor QA and general incompetence have killed this game. patches shouldnt make games even worse.

Thank you captain obvious. :D

But he should run the game EASILY on maxed out 60 or even more FPS.

The game is just a mess.Poorly poorly coded rubbish, thats why he got bad FPS.

There is NOTHING wrong with your PC OP,it's the game.

BTW:this Threadrenderer thingy does nothing.Threadrenderer_ 2 is just a debug mode for devs i heard and can cause crashes. At least it does for me.

They still have a lot of unoptimized and/or poorly implemented code running, this is the cause for the graphical issues.
