I am doing the Azura's shrine quest and have to choose Azura's Star or change it into the Black star. Not sure which is best.

My character can justify going either way but i was curious which is better for the the enchanting?

I am working at enchating and want the one that would help me out the best. With that said, I play a character that is basically neutral to good so I am not generally running around killing Humans, so if i understand the way the gems work i don't think i would get as much use out of the black star as i would Azura's star.

The quest lies about the Black Star. Just like any other Black Soul Gem, the Black Star is capable of absorbing any soul, not just the souls of NPCs. This makes it universally better than Azura's Star for gameplay reasons. Only take Azura's Star if you want to not piss of a daedra for roleplaying reasons. There are no repercussions in-game.

Generally, I've found the white/black star a lot less useful than in Morrowind (dunno about Oblivilol). You'll find lots of soul gems (clear a dwemer ruin and you'll have tons!) and they're readily available from vendors too.

The black star is the best, even if it's ability to absorb all souls gets fixed, but taking the white star gives you a pretty nifty follower.

Oh, thats right, you get a follower as well. That has to be considered as well, i heard she is pretty potent.

if you're playing a character going into the speech tree a bit and using alchemy it's feasable to just buy grand soul gems with the amount of money you will have. Alchemy will provide a limitless source of money done correctly. If not, take the black star.
