Really bad savegame problems

This morning, I spent a good 30 minutes trying to revive a savegame near Riften (which, btw, must be the buggiest part of the game so far). I've gotten used to loading a very early save, like level 8, because that's the only way I could load my current quicksave. Now, in order to play, I have to load a save from level 8, then load a save at level 15, then a save that's close to the Riften region, and finally my quicksave near Riften. Otherwise, the quicksave at Riften will load past the skyrim lore loading screens and then go to a black screen where it sits until I terminate it. It's like the game must load certain elements into video memory around the Riften area one step at a time. If I tried to load it all at once, the game locks every time. It's beyond frustrating.

Are you using version 1.4 Beta? That fixed my problems with Riften - as well as a lot of other problems.

No, I'm still on 1.31. I may give that a try, just thought the full 1.4 was close to being released

Like JMC002 suggested, try the 1.4 beta. Personally, I am impresse with it :smile:

Also, try using manual saves (Unless you were). Any active mods, by chance?

I had serious issues with my saves in Whiterun, to the point where they would almost never work properly. What I got into the habit of doing each time before I quit playing was to fast travel to several places and making manual saves at each of these. Typically between the manual saves and auto saves from fast travelling, as well as a quick save somewhere along the way, one of my saves would work properly. It was a nuisance for sure, but almost always left me at least one usable save for when I resumed.

1.4.2 beta seems to work very well. Alternatively, you could try reducing all gfx opttions to their lowest setting at the launcher and see if that let's you get past the crash. If it works, reach a reliable safe spot, quicksave and exit and then turn your options back up to where you like them. I've only had one spot with 100% repeatable CTD (with the first beta patch, incidentally) and this solution let me pass the area.

Prior to the 1.4 beta patch, my game was utterly unplayable: crashes every turn!
But, after applying 1.4, I have played for 30 hours and every CTD has been fixed! :)

i found for me that fast travelling to atleast 4 different places,jumping into those places then jumping out of them then fast travel on to the next resulted in wrecked saves,missing textures,ctd's.

i'm not saying it's your problem but if there is simularity try just running to your next location or let the system catchup.

I've had my first scare lastnite,my game froze and i got 7's info gathering box.

A ctd means nothing to me but a freeze up,that gets me.

Well, the update hasn't changed my situation much. Crashed trying to load my quick save so I had to load my usual way. Then it CTD 2 minutes into my load once i got it going. I have tried disabling my two mods and recreating a system default .ini so that none of my tweaks were present but it hasn't helpe the load issue. I may end up reloading the game and see if that helps.
