What to do with my money?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 2:53 pm

I have about 100k gold. I will use the money for

a) houses
B) skill trainers
c) buying materials to raise smithing
d) paying off bounties

Is there any other important thing to save my money for?

-dont waste your time farming souls just buy filled grand soul gems.

-get your housecarl decked out in dragonscale or dadric + weapons. (i like to enchant thier gear for defense so i cannot hack em down in one shot.)

-buy all the houses and decorations. (this should cost around 90k)

-you might want to save til you actually reach 100k if you want the achievement.

i had about 50k, but since i started training every level i have not been able to stay above 20k. training gets expensive.

Like others said, get the 'cheevo.

I'm grinding out my last few skills to try to max levels and it's painful so I drop 10k per level to train skills.

Money isn't worth much after you've gotten the houses, maxed out levels and gotten all the spells.

I don't know what
They want from me
It's like the mo' money we come across
The mo' problems we see

Just spend it baby you only live once!

Seriously speaking though, my advice is to start leveling alchemy if you haven't. You can essentially level it for free up to 90 if you join the Dark Brotherhood (or 75 in Whiterun from Arcadia) because the master alchemy trainer also buys potions. I managed to make money every time by simply buying materials for expensive potions at every alchemist and training then selling all the potions I made. The trainers all immediately gain the money you give them for bartering purposes. Also, if you have high level pickpocketing you can pickpocket it off them as well. See how far you can get without losing money with the trainers.

You should be able to level a few times at least if you do it right (level dependent of course).

After you're done with that, I'd go for houses. I've had bad luck with the Whiterun house/associated housecarl Lydia. Not only did I lose her and couldn't recruit another follower (not only to have her come back after I conquered Whiterun as a Stormcloak without any of the gear I gave her and without the option of recruiting her as a follower; before you say it, no killing her did not fix anything), I also made the mistake of leaving Dawnbreaker lying propped up against a chair only to have it disappear completely. I made it to the 100k achievement, then immediately bought the Riften house which is around 12k fully furnished, only to look back at my gold an hour later to see it at 105k thinking "how the... how did that happen?". Once you hit 100k, find a house you like, become the Thane, and buy it. That or buy them all (my plan).

Once that is finished, get all the miscellaneous enchants/spells/RP clothing or whatever else you fancy spending coinage on. There is no lack of gold in this game and that is the truth.

I'm also probably going to start simply buying filled grand soul gems like one of the above posters mentioned. Good time saver and no more carrying around an additional weapon just for soul trapping!

Eventually I store all my cash away and start again. Sitting on 60k on my current character, no reason to buy -every- house.

*In my best Alec Baldwin* ~ No reason to buy every house? What are we peasants?

I like to get every house because hey, why not? It's not like there isn't enough gold in the game to easily do so. I'm sitting on 125k with easily another 200k in jewelry, weapons, armor, miscellaneous items, etc. I can sell to have money to spend on things.

Maybe save your cash for when the mod storm hits? Hopefully there will be some creative mods released that will find a unique way to make an asston of money worth something again.
