Really not happy - patch updated when I had it set not to

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 6:44 am

I wasn't planning on updating and had the game set not to update. However, running the game resets the update settings to automatically update. I have checked this and it happens every time - it's set not to update, I run the game, then I check and it's now set to automatically update. No other Steam game does this.

My game is now patched against my wishes and I am very angry.

I'm not sure why your setting is being over written. If you have it set not to automatically update and try to play a game with a patch out AND are in online mode steam will update the game no matter what setting you have selected. The only way to avoid an update is to play in offline mode. By hitting play while ONLiNE your telling steam "yes update please", because steam doesn't allow games to be played unupdated while in online mode.

Again, not sure why the main setting is being turned to update though.

Uh oh. 1.4 blows up your computer and turns your character into a falmer.

Said it before and I will say it again......Steam Setting does nothing leave it offline or it will patch automatically.

Yes, I've always wondered why Steam was trying to have us think that we can chose what we want for our games. If you set the preferences on "do not update automatically", Steam turns it automatically otherwise once you close the window.

Steam is a nuisance but we can't do without it and it's an outrage. Nobody is a lawyer here and know what to do, so that we can run the game outside Steam?

Welcome to the world of Steam. Either you use it and suffer bugs like this or do not use and you can not play Skyrim. In other words: if you want to play Skyrim, Steam does owe your ass :(

As usual, these threads turn into a discussion of Steam, so take it to the thread we have for that:
