Texture issues after 1.4 update. Anyone else heard of this?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 4:09 pm

I tried to post pictures but the post would never submit.

I'm mainly having issues with textures not loading correctly; My horse will be half invisible for example, or things will load somewhat translucent with incomplete textures.

Also issues with textures flickering(I have only seen this in dungeons), where a texture will load, and then another one will flicker on top of it and then go away.

If anyone could comment that knows anything about this it would be greatly appreciated. I didn't have ANY of these issues before the 1.4 update and all of the issues started right after i downloaded the update last night. (Btw I tried removing all of my mods so I have no idea at this point what to do)

How did you remove them? Every thing you describe could be caused by the game getting confused about what textures to apply. If your Archive Invalidation Text file still has pointers to texture files you removed, that could cause this.

I firstly uninstalled everything using the Nexus mod manager, and then I removed every other file that was left over so it looked identical to the original data folder, which i kept a copy of.

If you kept a copy of your data folder, it might be safer to just delete the one in your game directory and restore your copy, then verify the game cache via steam to make sure nothing is missing.

Thanks, I already verified the game cache and there was no problem. I just uninstalled the game and deleted all of the files and I am reinstalling right now. Btw I started noticing the texture issues WAY more. I went into solitude and the ground texture would switch back and forth between grass on the top and no grass. (They both looked great, but the flickering between the two aspect didn't obviously look good haha). I will report back when the reinstall is finished to say if the issue is fixed or not.

-Using a Sapphire HD 6970 graphics card and an intel i7 2600k @ 3.4 Ghz processor. 8 Gb of DDR3 Memory and 750 Watt Corsair PS.
-Chipset Drivers and CCC drivers are up to date.

did you change you AA settings? i will have that exact problem if using adaptive AA - it screws up with semi-transparent textures exactly in the manner you describe.

I might have changed it from multi to adaptive AA in CCC. Thanks for mentioning that! I was tinkering around with that last night while researching all of the settings under gaming. Will definitely give that a shot.

After reinstalling and setting AA to multi instead of adaptive, I am having no issues and its running great. I also set ugridstoload to 7 for the first time. Highly recommend doing that if your system can handle it. Thanks everyone, especially Captain Beefheart!
