The Only Cure - Peryite quest

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 1:24 pm

I'm playing as a mage and simply cannot kill Orchendor. He is 100% immune to all forms of magic, weapon enchantments included. I've tried using melee, but he heals himself when I get him down to roughly 25%. Any help would be appreciated.

Scratches head. Hmmmmmm. Try archery from a distance then as his health gets to about fifty percent a power attack.

It took me a good 35 minutes to whittle his health away with a dagger, but I finally lucked up and got his life low enough to stagger him and kill him.

So, to clarify, he is 100% immune to all magic and magical effects. Do yourself a favor (if you're playing a pure mage, anyway) and take a heavy-hitting melee weapon in with you.

If you can, use potions to beef up your weapons skills and take him on directly. Not exactly a problem for me since I use dual swords and heavy armor on my battlemage.

Didn't even notice his resistance as I beheaded him in 3 hits from my Legendary Daedric sword as his spells bounced off my armor.

I encountered him yesterday as pure mage on Level 29 or something. And he was outright impossible.
I mean, he's immune to magic, shouts, poisons, weapon enchantments, anything but melee damage. And my pathetic little dagger (with godlike 25% critical chance, woo) was cleaning his fingernails.

In the end I just left him there, because, what the hell. I don't want to spend 40 minutes whacking on him, hoping to get lucky to finally kill him. See, I would have understood if the guys beforehand were really strong, or extremely resistant to magic. Then I would have thought "Well, this seems a little hard for me now, I better head back and come back later". But this way I turned his minions to popsickles with two or three spells and then he comes along, spitting me in the face and laughing at my pathethic attempt to injure him.
I don't even know if I could taken him on with higher melee damage, because he usually teleports like a rabbit on speed. When I turn around to aim at him again, he teleports once more. How am I even supposed to do constant damage with melee weapons?
My summoned Frost Atronarch was more of a distraction to him than really delivering any kind of damage. I figured a Flame Atronarch would be worse with his fireballs. And I can't summon Dremora or whatnot yet. AND I don't have a follower, because I don't like them being able to die and melee hirelings are hard to babysit for my tastes (especially with AoE spells and not enough enchanting to boost them immune to elemental yet). So possibly the worst setup as pure mage to face him. But I tried everything at my disposal, all to little or none effect.

I don't mind a harder battle, but what is that? On my first go, after five minutes of whacking him after seeing my spells not even making him shrug, I even searched the room because I was like "Well, maybe there's some kind of magic trinket I must destroy to lower his defense? Or some kind of death trap I must use?

I can only assume the whole quest simply isn't thought for mages but heavy armor melee characters? Considering his invulnerability to spells and the reward you get.
I just want to know if this is intented or if he's simply a code abomination. :glare:

A great follower to use is Lucien LaChance (if you've gotten that far in the DB quests.

Summon him once per day... if he dies you just summon him the next day... he hits like a MAC truck...

That's how I went in.

I'm an Khajiit assassin, I tryd to kill him heads-on with Mehrunes' Dagger and I couldn't kill him even with using all my potions..

So I sneaked on his ass and cut his throat, that was that :)

Rather than start a new thread, i have a question about this quest. I did the inhale part and save game. I came back to the game a long while later and now i cant fast travel and if i pick up a book i can only read (LR MB) or steal the thing, i cant put it back down. What gives? Prior to this, i rolled back the "patch" to 1.1 since 1.2 was introducing more bugs that did not exist before. That being said, i tried the game with 1.2 and still have the fast travel, broken tab key problem.
