Song of Ice and Fire easter egg?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 5:34 am

I finally get around to joining the Thieves Guild, and I cannot seem to like the leader of the guild. Most likely because his name is Mercer Frey, and I've read Storm of Swords, where I can no longer see anyone named 'Frey' in a positive light.

Sure enough, a quest rolls around where I go with him to kill the guild's enemy. Go figure, he turns on me and tries to kill me. My mistrust for him because he's a Frey was right. I guarantee Bethesda chose to name him a Frey because of Walder Frey and the Red Wedding, as they've stated before that a lot of the devs are fans of the books and they almost made a Game of Thrones video game.

Robb Stark was one of my (if not my #1) favorite character for most of COK and SOS. I'll never see a Frey in the same light. The North remembers.

I've always enjoyed Jon Snow myself. And the (third?) book made me like Jaime a whole lot more.

I almost quit reading after RW happened. Probably took a week or two before I was able to. Weird how things affect you sometimes.

It wasn't bad? Are you kidding? The Red Wedding is still the most shocking turn in the series that saw a king die and ended a beautifully sad tale of Robb Stark. One of the best chapters in the series. I remember reading it thinking it was just Cat being her usual gloomy self, but then out of nowhere there's swords and and everyone's getting shot at by arrows. Had to reread it 6 different times, and Roose killing Robb still makes me sad.

Agreed. That book really made Jamie human.

Yep. First time I read the RW, I threw the book across the room. After that, I wholeheartedly began to support Stannis.

Funny, that was when I started to wholeheartedly support Daenerys.

Daenerys would be cool too, she'd be likely to burn the Freys (literally) as well. She just seems like she's put reclaiming the Iron Throne on the backburner though, and has been portrayed as kinda childish in recent books.
