The X's on the map...

Do they really signify treasure? Cuz I investigated the one up near Windhelm (next to Lake Yorgrim) and found a bandit camp. Granted there were chests in the camp, but nothing of REAL value. Did I walk past the actual treasure or what?.....are the treasure chests buried? I'm confused :(

The Birthsign stones? That you can only have one active at a time? Saw three at the beginning of the game?

Twelve of the 13 birthsign stones are represented by red x's. All three guardian stones (3 of the 13 birthsigns) are represented by only one red x. Nine more represent 9 more birthsign stones. One birthsign stone is not represented by a red x.

I see 23 red x's on the map, though I've heard there are 24. The remaining red x's seem to represent a variety of things. I have not yet discovered a pattern for what they represent.

Are you talking about the X on the physical map you get with the collector's edition or the X on an item you may find that's called "Treasure Map (roman numeral"?
