Would it ever be possible to let console players modd their game or does the hardware on console not allow this?
I know on the ps3 you can create levels for infamous 2, would we ever be able to get anything like this for consoles?

Maybe like a debug mode to change things? At the very lease may be have a slider setting mode for everything

As much as I would love for this to happen, I'm afraid Bethesda dosn't intend to fix the console problems in any other way accept patches...

It likely that the PS3 and XBox don't have the necessary software architecture or hardware to run the editor.

Unlike most games Skyrim mods are not dealt with separately, like UT3 levels, but are integrated into the whole. With most games the console only has to worry about one level at a time and it doesn't matter how many you have - with Skyrim you can conceivably have dozens of mods that need to be juggled in addition to all of the original content. With official DLC consideration can be given to this, but if you open the floodgates players could well-exceed what the console is capable of handling.

Here's what Todd said on the matter back in June:

I think our PC mod community is one of the things that is great about our games. We’ve always supported it and we want to continue to do it. But a lot of our audience is on the consoles so they’re not experiencing that. So we have talked to Microsoft and Sony; “how do we do this?”.

The good news is that those things have started to happen with games like Forza 3 and sharing all your car stuff or Rock Band’s a really good example, where you can make your own tracks where you’re authoring them somewhere else then you’re uploading them to the 360.

There are still a lot of issues to solve with... because these aren’t instances like a song or a car you know, you could download a mod that destroys your game and we can’t have that. So we’re still... we have not solved -- even on paper yet -- how to handle security; how do we handle not messing up your saved games and things like that.

So it’s not going to be solved for the game’s release, but it’s something that we’re going to continue to look at because we think that it’s an awesome part of the game that the majority of our audience isn’t seeing.

So, definitely maybe.

Thanks I never saw that. I would be happy with just a tuner setting to balance the game. That would be a nice start.

Instead of comsole players making mods, there should be this porgram made by bethesda to download filtered mods (so Micro wouldn't have to deal with "nvde mod" sueing ect.)

Mods could still be made on a PC and maybe given to the console? Since the console would have no problem running average size mods it could be transferred?
Thing is that you need to have mods that does not use keyboard bindings or a console version of the editor(Still on PC) so you can make use of the < > buttons :P

I have not yet lost hope in Todd ;) It's a shame you have. After all he and the rest of Bethesda have just done one of the best games of this year(and of many years back). I guess that someone like that isn't good enough for you.

Skyrim will probably win GOTY.

It's not going to happen. Microsoft, Sony and Bethesda make a lot of money off of DLC. They would be cutting of their own heads.

Self-editing is not possible, due to the limitations of the (sort-of-OS, on x-box), and the (no real OS, on PS3). (PS3 games are made on a PC.)

However... Mods that are made, can potentially work on PS3 and XBOX, but the systems will not naturally allow it to happen. (Requires a form of hack, to get content on, and get it to run.)

The problem is... Many mods are not just "text-script", but whole image-packs, sound-packs, and plug-in code with scripts. (Code that PS3 and XBOX will NEVER allow, nor could they run them.)

However... Like bethesda did for this engine... You will possibly see adoption of plugins, the best of the best, released into patches. (Bethesda conversions.)

This game is essentially the old game, with these oblivion-plugins... (Originally created by fans, concepts adopted into this game.)
- Better animations
- Better models
- Natural environments (Weather, water, scenery)
- Ambient sounds (Birds, noises, wilderness, etc...)
- Texture-packs (Upgraded textures)
- Better flora (Plants and trees)
- Real skies (More realistic horizon skies and stars.)
- Interior weather (Weather effects seen from inside, through the windows. Previously all interior seemed to have noon, clear skies, looking out the windows.)

The true advancements by bethesda are...
- Radient AI, pure bethesda creation. (Not that they invented it, but they developed it for this game.)
- Random events and quests. (Not that they invented it, but they developed it for this game.)
- GUI. (Console GUI replacing the standard RPG style GUI. Adopted from the style of the prior game of Fallout-3.)
- Extended LOD control and LOD cache. (Not that they invented it, but they developed it for this game.)
- CUDA and Phis-X use. (Previously not implemented in other games, until a patch adopted extended Havok control.)
- Adaptive HDR and BLOOM features. (Previously "fake" in prior games, using software tricks to simulate those bogging effects, or limited use of hardware.)

I think that is all I can remember... but I forget... lol.

1. Most mods would blow your consoles to bits.
2. Modding basicly invalidates most DLCs, because they're usually..well.. better. In terms of those housing DLCs in Oblivion.
3. It will just never happen.

The problem about modding consoles is that, if the mods stress the hardware enough, people won't blame the mod community or Bethesda. They'll blame Sony and Microsoft because their machines broke.
The only way to obtain new content would be through DLC, which is tested by the company itself and can pretty much guarantee it won't break consoles.

technicalyl its perfectly possible, infact todd howard has said that hes used mods on teh 360 version of previous games.

but microsoft and sony wont allow them for varying reasons.

at least, they wont allow them in their present form in this gens hardware.

All I was talking about is the modding issue on the console. He might LIKE the idea of mods on the console, but if he thinks there is any way it will happen in our life time he's very much mistaken as long as Microsoft and Sony control the consoles or unless you turn the console into a PC.

There are so many reasons, alot of them given here on the forums, why that won't work.

It would seem that what needs to happen is for MS and Sony to finally cave in and put out the next generation of consoles, since the years of advances during the current one would allow for a far more robust machine that might actually have the capability to handle mod use. How likely that is, I have no clue, but it's apparently way overdue.

Even a new generation of consoles would likely still not be able to create mods, as you really do need a PC's capabilities (and far larger memory) for that, but at least they'd be able to process ones that are already made.
