Azura's star or The black star?

I really can't decide here. I haven't ever needed to make the choice before now. But I can't decide.

black star, it still fills regular souls even though it claims not to.

This. Beyond roleplaying reasons there is literally no reason to take Azura's Star over the Black Star.

Black star is better for people who can't get grand souls easily. That way, every bandit you kill has a grand soul.

However, if you're a mage and can summon a dremora lord, you can stand at the enchanting altar and summon the dremora, trap his grand soul and use it, then rinse and repeat. If you made the Black Star, you'd have to go out to a bandit camp and trap a soul, then go back to the altar, etc.

So Black Star is better for warriors and thieves, azura's star is better for mages who can summon grand souls.

This is false. The Black Star can capture all souls.

You sure about that? The only ones I get are grand souls from NPCs and the occasional bug of a lesser soul.

Does the Black Star still count towards Oblivion Walker?

Yep, it does. Got the achievement on a character that took the black star.

dont forget the azura priestess will be a possible companion. and a very strong caster too (she can dual wield staffs and summons atronachs) but only if you give the star back to azura. tough this is only useful when you are using companions^^ but something that should be considered.

the thing with the dremora lord is true. which makes azuras star more useful for making entchantments. but for reloading your weapon in the field the black star is better.

black star cannot trap ALL souls. thats not true. try capturing a giant or a mammoth with it and you WILL fail.

Eh, by the time I got Azura's Star I was level 50 and just about everything I fought had at least a greater soul. So I went with the regular star and the kickass companion (best companion I've found yet in the game).

And besides, the portion of the quest where you have to help "cleanse" the Star is just too cool to miss.

I got the Star early, and then the Black Star is highly useful. Need a grand soul? Go snipe a bandit. Sure, if I was a high level conjurer, the Azura's Star would be easier, but otherwise the Black Star is the way to go.

You cleanse the star regardless which one you choose.

I have Azura's Star on my 2nd play through and it just plain sux compared to Black Star. However, there is a caveat with Azura's as you get to take the lady who gives it to you as a companion. I am enjoying her immensely as she's a tough mage.

Just for the record, Lydia can dual wield staves. I'm sure every follower can.
