Question ? Are the passwords for steam and Bethesda forums d

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 3:36 pm

All these passwords and user names are driving me crazy. the Forums for Skyrim do they have different passwords and user names for Steam and Bethesda ?? If so why ?? Steam is used to start the games and to make additions to the game. I am in the bethesda forums now but The answer to my problem may be with Steam. Okay the problem is right after I killed the Emperior or shortly there after, I can't do anymore quests. The game seemed to have ended, nothing works. The game is not frozen I can still walk around and fight, I can still kill dragons but that is it. I have alot of quests in the miscellaneous list that I finished but are still listed as not finished . I was in the tail end of the assassins guild quests and I killed the emperor.This is when I couldn't do any more guests all though I still had alot of new quests listed. Has anyone else come across this problem??????

First off, the accounts are different since the forums are completely separate. They're separate as Beth does not share Valve's servers, they're just used for game distribution.

Now that that's settled:

1) Remove any and all mods
2) Verify files

Yeah, it's separate! Bethesda's Elder Scrolls Forums have been around since looong before I ever heard of this "Steam" DRM fiasco.

Advice: Keep a personal notebook hidden somewhere with hard copies of your account names and passwords. If you come up with something that you will always remember, you don't neccessarily have to write the whole password down, just enough to jog your memory. I don't do this, but I know people who do.

http://keepass.info/works great. I use it. Much better than a physical copy with every password in it.

What if you use a personal encryption code & no one else can read your "chicken scratch" handwriting? Still superior, imo, than digital encryption that can potentially be hacked. ;)

Well I prefer keepass still, since I change passwords frequently and each password is still 20+ characters.

@OP

If you're using the same username and password for everything... Should i really have to explain what happens when only one site or forum you're on gets hacked?

It may be a pain, but keeping a different password for every site is a very, very good idea.

Regarding to the actual problem - Try going back a few saves. If you're only using autosaves, you may just have corrupted your saves to a point where you cannot use them anymore. Always do manual saves, never ever use the quicksave or autosave - They don't work right, haven't worked right in an Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind.
